I purchased and installed the 2" Stubby Jr antenna and didn't lose an iota of reception. The antenna is hardly visible on the truck because it only sits about an inch above the fin.

Agreed. I also installed it and couldn't be any happier. All the better when purchased through @PandaMotorworks.

I bought 3 different antenna options from Cravenspeed, I will try all three tomorrow and see which one looks best. They have a great return policy so I felt ok ordering all three to test. I will post pictures of all three.

after not paying too much attention to the OEM antennae. turned out I only have ~1" of clearance between that and the top of my garage door. If I was to add any lift to it and reverse it. Goodby antenna. One of these is a must for garage parked lifted Rangers.

Just tested out the Stubby and the Stubby Jr. compared to the Original in the diagnostics mode. There is a signal strength test in there and I used that to get the following results.

  • Original - 62
  • Stubby - 43
  • Stubby Jr - 37
  • No antenna - 24
After I switched antennas I waited 30 seconds for the signal strength to settle. The truck was parked and turned to ā€˜onā€™ but not running. Iā€™m not sure what the measurement is in but the numbers dropped thatā€™s for sure. However, in the end itā€™s about how well your station comes in.

As for more real world tests, Iā€™ve spent 2 weeks with the Original and 2 weeks with the Stubby... To me they seem virtually the same on my routes I drive. Now I just switched to the Stubby Jr. I guess Iā€™ll see how this works for the next 2 weeks.

Here are pictures of 3 antenna options by Cravenspeed. I chose to go with the Stubby Jr. No problems with radio reception with any of the options.

Thank you very much for this post. The stock one comes so close to hitting the garage door. I'll be getting the stubby

How'd you get it into test mode? I tried on mine and it didn't go into test mode. Hold driver side OK button 5+ seconds, then push the start/stop engine button once w/ foot off brake.

On the Lariat with the 501A package, press the seek forward button on the center console and the hang up phone button on the steering wheel for 5 seconds. If it works it will go through the speaker test. Its loud/high pitch so make sure your volume is at a resonable level not to kill your ears.

Ah, nice. It worked. Dang, there's a lot of menus in there... All kinds of info that I didn't understand. :)

Had to re-do this - you press the steering wheel skip and the console skip buttons at the same time to get into test mode.

Edit: Someone beat me to the punch while I was testing it out... Interestingly enough the signal strength on my stock antenna was 61-64.

Are any of the antennas rubber, flexible? Can you get different calibers in the bullet antenna?
