Did an oil change today (2020 XLT), and noticed the lack of any sort of plastic splash pan under the engine. Is this kosher? The electric water pump looks especially vulnerable with its exposed connectors. Wondering if this item was left off during a service or just not there to begin with.

Remember this is not built like a Kia. Very little plastic on top of the engine, even less on the bottom..

looks like you have FX4. what more protection under the engine do you want besides the alternator moved a little higher?

XLT Sport 2wd. Couldn't get a good underneath shot without a lift but first pic gives you some idea. Second pic is closeup of connectors (in red) on the electric water pump. Obviously the truck rides higher than a typical passenger car, but these connectors still appear pretty vulnerable to the elements without a splash guard.

I think your trying to find a problem where one doesn't exist. There are many electrical connections underneath from the front to the back, and all will get dirty/wet eventually. Inside the frame rails, rear axle, ect.
Also, many have taken their Rangers off road, dirt/water/mud, and I don't think I have seen any posts about electrical problems (except maybe the alternator or a few where water got on top of the engine) due to "wet".

Hey Andrew - I recall that some 2WD Rangers come with a plastic skid plate and some don’t. It might be a trim level or model year thing, but if your tow hooks have the tapped mounting points, you can add the large front plate.

A search on the forums for 2WD Skid Plate or just Skid Plate might provide some links to threads with more info, but, yeah, it’s a 2WD thing.

Check the member marketplace - some folks who put on aftermarket skid plates or front bumpers might be selling their’s cheap.
