Just installed our SmartCap EVOa yesterday.
Assembled and installed by ourselves.
This is just an initial impression and not any criticism of the vendor.
We intend to register our purchase and contact their support team (its the weekend and they are Mon-Fri). We look forward to talking to them and getting any support we need.
Kudos to E.B. Sales and Service in Kemptville Ontario. I ordered the canopy on Thursday afternoon...they had it shipped from the US and I picked it up Friday morning !!!
Still very early days . We will see how it handles a Canadian winter.
We will be doing some mild overlanding with it this summer and fall (northeast US, Labrador/Newfoundland)
The good...
- First impressions are that it is pretty solid construction.
- Still adjusting the tension on the front and rear truck mounts to compress the D gasket.
- Instructions were pretty good for assembly (although 2 hours is a bit optimistic;-)
- Packaged well.
The issues...
- Had some issues with a few of the front and rear fastener blocks that connect the front and back section. We torqued them well below the recommended setting and they still let go. Seems the threads are stripped or broken with in the plastic .
- had a 6-7inch deep scratch on the underside paint (that sits on bed rail) - we covered it with a bit rustproof paint
- disappointed about the 3rd brake light installation. Instructions show a wiring harness but nothing was shipped. Will be talking to their support team to see how to resolve.
Overall still very impressed with it. It fits well on the Ranger and we think looks good . It has met out initial expectations (solid build, good quality) .
Will post some detailed pics of the mounting and interior.
We will be updating this thread as we work through a few of the issues and add more to the build (ie.roof rack , RTT, lighting interior....etc). Looking for a nice low profile rack ..if anyone has suggestions. We would still like to get the truck through the garage door with a RTT mounted.
