Side effects of no TPMS?

My Tremor is soon to arrive.

Looking for winter wheels and tires. I don't want to drop money on those dumb tire computers.

I run no TPMS in my Jeep, just has the little tire gauge light on in the dash, barely noticeable. That's the only side effect.

So if I run no TPMS in a new Ranger, what's the worst that can happen? I don't want my traction control to get jacked or the truck to go into limp mode or have anything buzzers go off?

Just a dash light? I hope...

Anyone know for sure??

I think… just the tire pressure light comes on.. I heard forscan can disable it but not sure. If you ever do want to get the TPMS, TPMS.com has the schrade ones for $30 a pop I believe. I used them in my winter set and good to go.

Lack of TPMS should have NO effect on any other system. Have had winter wheels/tires on several vehicles since 2005, all without TPMS and the only down side is the dash icon stays lit for the duration. Once you put the original wheels/tires with TPMS back on, the system will/should operate as normal and the system will recognize the sensors again.

It's possible to move the the sensors to the winter wheels if you have the right valve stems. I bought a used set of OE charcoal wheels and just unscrewed the sensors from valve stems on my wheels and screwed them onto the new wheels.
That said, I bought all new sensors once for my old Sport Trac and when the batteries died again a few years later I just put a piece of black tape over the light.

FWIW, I got my 15 Mustang in January so I had my son order me a set of winter tires and wheels. The TPMS sensors were on back order at the time so I went without.

Every time I started the vehicle I would get a message in the productivity screen that there was a TPMS fault. Once I acknowledged it the little tire warning icon stayed on. It had no other impact on any of the other systems in the car.

Interestingly if I parked the car in the garage the system would pick up the summer tires that were stored in the garage and I wouldn't get the warning for 10 or so miles.

I like having the TPMS, since the tire pressures can be checked from the Ford app. I have found mine to be as accurate as my manual gauge and it’s an easy process to check all four tires at one time. I check my pressure several times a week while fiddling with the app and use my portable Makita inflator to top them off if they are low. I wouldn’t be that consistent with checking pressures if I had to do it manually. So, to me, the TPMS is a good safety and maintenance feature that justifies the cost.

You could always leave your summer tires and wheel in the box all winter
