My Tonka trucks were built from much thicker steel with a protective lead paint that stayed shiny without wax ?.

That's true as well! Although when I played with mine outside, they did develop some rust.

Mine stayed nice and shiny. Guess it could have been from the old motor oil and antifreeze my dad would dump in our sand pile to keep neighborhood cats out.

All my Tonka vehicles met their end when I was 14 and found out about explosives. We stole a box of m80s from a friends dads fireworks stash and did permanent damage to them all in an afternoon. ?. At least no fingers were lost.
