This video talks a little about premium gas.. Say make a little difference but not much.
The whole video is pretty good.

That's a pretty significant reason to run fuel with a higher octane rating than the stated minimum to me. The cost around here though is about .60 per gallon for 93 over 87 octane, some stations up to .70. That's almost $11 per 18 gallons of gas. That's not insignificant either however, for those who like or need to pinch pennies.
I understand and completely agree with you. I ran a few tanks of premium to try it out and then went back to 87 myself. I just don't like the other dude calling me a liar when this was settled years ago in the Mustang Ecoboosts and Focus Ecoboosts. The Mustangs picked up 22hp at the wheels. I got my info from these forums lol.

Thought this would make for a good separate thread. The owners manual says you can run regular gas (87 octane) in the 2.3L ecoboost Ranger, so that leads to the natural question if higher octane gas would yield more power. The easy answer is yes, but how much power difference?

Tuners have performed comparison dynos on Ecoboost Mustangs to test this. Here's one that led to a 22 whp / 4 wtq difference between 87 octane and 92 octane, with peak difference above 4500 rpm.

thats the catch , performance gains are most noticeable under two conditions they list. if you do neither, it's insignificant.
You still get the best overall vehicle and engine performance with premium fuel with an octane rating of 91 or higher and is recommended (not required) even without hot weather and towing.
Not required because a Premium recommendation would kill sales. It's a matter of choice and wallet.

drink the coolaid if you like, the gains are still insignificant.
LOL!
You use what you want and I'll do the same.
I don't care about gain. The engine runs at it's best with premium and this is stated by Ford.

well you wanna compare the engines...probably cuz you feel they are similiar enough...then I will too.
who drives their ranger at 4500rpm?? show of hands?? anyone?
I do when I'm stuck behind slower traffic and hit a passing zone. Aren't you the one that wanted to connect a rheostat to your truck so you could crank up the performance?

that few bucks a tank adds up over the life of the truck.
do the math, it's not as insignificant as you believe.

I can think of better things to spend a couple grand on.
Bro $5 every week or two? I’m not gonna worry about it lol

i'm glad you dont have to. but not everyone is in that great of a financial goldmine.

Ive got an ex wife, kids in college, a dying mother, three types of cancer, a drug problem and alcohol dependency. Its hard to even buy groceries let alone put high test gas in the truck for general cruising around.
Sorry to read about all your challenges. Best of luck to you.

Not judging but sounds like you shouldn’t of bought a brand new truck if $5 a week breaks you. But I hope your situation gets better, I’ll be praying for you my friend, you have a lot going on

Wow, 22hp! How could anyone not notice that in daily driving.

Let's see, 22 hp, 4400 pounds, that's about .005 hp per pound. Maybe .05- .1 seconds in a 1/4 mile?
