Here is my dilemma, my truck is having some issues with the rear differential it has some noise and vibration
1) do I have ford fix it under warranty for my deductible of $100 which brings it back to stock (open diff)
2) wait until February for my Ford schooling money and upgrade to a locker
3)do both
Take into account that I drive 60 miles a day for work and unsure if the rear diff will make it until February driving it like in stole it lol

Put a gearset and locker on your credit card.

If Ford will cover it under the warranty, do that. Will they cover it if they have to take our a locker? You can always upgrade later, and driving 60 miles per day is a lot on a funky rear end.

I agree with him, from what I read on your options list. I would go with option 3. IMHO, this is also coming from someone that drives a 100 miles per work day.

Option 3 hands down. Being stranded on the side of the road isn’t a good option. Im curious to how your killing the stock one. Mine has the locker but I don’t use it very often. I thought I was going to break something one day in 4wd and the locker engaged dragging 10-12ft oak logs. I was struggling for traction.

Andy I like to Drag race my truck and with the slicks on it the rear diff can't seem to hold up

That definitely answers my question lol! Pretty cool seeing slicks on a 5G Ranger! I wonder if there’s a stronger rear end you could upgrade to with minimal labor? Either something from another Ford or an aftermarket company like Currie.

Eaton has a lsd differential I am looking at but parts are $1300 plus labor and with the holidays coming up that makes it tough to shell out the cash, the stock differential lasted 86k and if $100 deductible will get me back up and going that is most likely the route I will go

If it is your sole source of transportation and your only means to get to work, then warranty it and quit beating the shit out of it until you can upgrade.

I know not everyone can do it, but using a daily driver for race track duty, of any kind, will eventually end in heartache. Separate vehicles are the way to go, and don't take anything to the race track you're not willing to crash and walk away from.

Well now we know why you have diff problems. Upgrade one thing, it just goes down the rabbit hole, and eventually, you will break something. Just part of the rules with racing, not if, but when something breaks. Sounds like something is already broken.

Just drive it like you stole it!
