Hi all,
New owner from Central Florida. Have a 2020 XL 4x2 supercab and wanted to share my experience with the FPP tune. Installed Sunday the 5th with 1800 on the odometer. First I’d like to point out how much similarity there is between the procal4 and mycal (in looks) down to the same mount. I can’t help but see the FPP is a repackaged Livernois.

She was broken in as recommended by Mfct. and driven in Sport mode since 1k miles (Drive mode only when in traffic) My commute is late am and late pm, hardly ever drive during the heat of the day. After driving her late Sunday at light throttle and allowing the system to relearn, I was impressed. Drive mode now feels like a notch below (pre tune) Sport. Shifts are noticeably better in both D and S! Sport mode is glorious, very progressive power (not tire shredding) and at heavy throttle the gearing is tuned for 1/4 mile runs. Light throttle on the street in S is thoroughly impressive. Now take into account, so far this is only in cooler weather (- 88*) The downside here is that I had not taken into consideration how she would do in the heat...

This is a general tune for the USA and Canada and the performance will differ if you haven’t researched what heatsoak and elevation may do for your truck post tune.

Monday I ran her in the heat (+ 94*) in S and the tune was horrid...gearing was off, held too long for my taste and quickly heat soaked after 3 hard pulls in about a hour drive around town. Immediately switched to D and made my way home light throttle.

I’d never experienced this severe heat soak pre tune and learned quickly this will have to be remedied soon. IMO if you’re in the South, are contemplating this tune and regularly drive in the heat of the day, consider upgrading the IC as well.

In conclusion, I’m content with my choice, looking forward for Mishimoto to develop a Ranger specific IC, then I’ll be a happy camper.

So im looking to buy either a 19 or 20 Ranger and wanted to get the FPP tune put in.. From what I am seeing from you and maybe others just browsing these threads, how long would you recommend waiting before I get it installed and am able to break in the engine a little bit? 1K miles or more? And you lightly touched on how to condition the motor to be prepared for the tune what do you suggest with that? Sorry for all the questions but I was going to do tune and Fox Leveling kit right away but sounds like I should hold off on the tune until I break it in a little if thats what your experience was??

good review. I am also in central Fl so the overall heat and how it would effect a tune, isn't something I really thought about.

Great post. I have the Livernois and almost every bolt on you can get right now, except an upgraded IC.

Here in the ATL, I can feel the truck behave a little different for sure in the heat of the day. I usually adjust my driving style accordingly and don't rag on it.

My 98 Ranger (2.5L 5-Speed) always had a noticeable loss of power with the AC on, so I've been conditioned to not expect max performance in the summertime and drive a little more conservatively.

The flip side to that is - once it dips to around 60-55 degree I am maybe overly aggressive with my driving.

LOL buy your truck first man! I drove it easy (Rolling pulls only) for the first 1k as recommended by posts and mfct. After that I drove in Sport for another 800 miles or so. Got bored and slapped the FPP tune. As mentioned, take into account elevation and ambient temps.

As mentioned, I hardly drive in the heat of the day...so I’ll take the good with the bad. In my experience, when temps are less than 88* it runs great with FPP tune. My truck is otherwise stock...XL supercab with steelies and she really is a sleeper. Nice to whip up on some unsuspecting drivers here and there.
