This week I cancled my ATT hotspots in our car and the ranger. Also canceled their old burner pay as you go phone that was 3 or 4g. I decided to get a real phone service with a 5g lower end Samsung A53 phone with hotspot and internet to replace everything. I have been looking for a decent phone mount and in the threads I see many use magnetic mounts that I like. But from the phone manual and other threads online I see 5g phones need a big antennae inside the back of the case and it should not be blocked by metal. Actually the back is best facing the windshield for best reception in an auto. Just wondering if anyone has seen reception problems on 5g networks with the big metal plate from magnetic mounts glued on or if it's not an issue. Also do the plates glued to the phone become magnetic over time. Thanks for any input.

Ed I use this magnet mount here. I've had it for over 3 years now and it works great with my 5G phone. I'm using an Otterbox commuter case and have the disc fixed to the back side of the case.

Dave, I'm shocked at the state of your dash and screen.

I put my phone screen down in the center console right by the USB ports. What is the purpose of a phone mount when you have AA?

It's been cold here and I haven't detailed the inside for a month now! ?

The purpose is so you can see the screen while using the phones navigation. I rarely use my Rangers nav and use Google maps or Waze.

Thanks Dave. I didn't realize you could mount them to a case. Thought it needed to be put on the phone to keep things light. Amazing that the adhesive is still holding up in your heat and sun. Got one on order. I didn't realize that 4g signals were much stronger then the 5g and being in the country was a little worried about things I had read online. Guess you can't believe everything on the internet and manufacturers try to cover reasons people complain about with warnings.

That's my point. Both Waze and Google maps will display on your truck's screen with AA or Carplay?

Lame excuse on the cleanliness Dave. It's much colder here, I wash my truck at pay and spray, and mine looks better.

Gonna lose that 303 sponsorship if you don't keep up.

I actually like the factory navigation and heard if you plug in android auto the factory version is disabled. I just want it visible for streaming music and letting my wife watch her soap opera if we are out.

I bought the Proclip mount that snaps in the lower right corner trim bezel around the touch screen. I Shaved off the bottom right corner just enough
To make it seat deeper. I made my mount for my Galaxy s20 note out of Kydex and it's just snug enough to hold the phone in after I added stick on padding on the edges. Made one for my wife's car, refined it a bit with sides not as deep as mine. Both.have a wireless charging pad affixed with good double sided tape so it holds the phones and charges. Pics if interested or search my threads I may have posted pics there.

If you prefer the factory nav, that is correct. In my experience phone based nav is far superior to any factory system. Especially Sync's with it's 1985 GUI.

You should try it. It's very nice.

I've tried it and just don't care for it. Having SiriusXM I don't need to stream from my phone and see no use for connecting it.

My daily commutes here are very short too and I'm OCD about always having my phone charged. In the rare time it's not I'll usually connect it to the USB port behind the console. I do see why others like it but for me I like using my phone separate and having the screen not taken over by the phone.

Kind of like the windows xp I still use . Another stupid question. What happens to the climate screen if you use AA? I hate those little buttons and use the screen. I'm coming out of the stone age and am resistant to change.

Makes sense. When I'm using a source other than my phone I put the right dash screen to "entertainment" for control.

I really enjoy having the moving map with me at all times, even though I don't actively navigate outside of work much. If I feel like taking a different route a quick glance will confirm it works for me, I'm always trying to avoid traffic.

There's a white button bottom left of the AA screen. It brings up a menu, if you choose "Ford" the Sync screen will come up and you can access all functions except Nav.

My HVAC stays on auto most times, the buttons work okay for me to go back and forth from auto to max defrost. If you access the HVAC menu you might not want to use AA as it's kind of cumbersome to go back and forth.

I should probably play around with it more. We're heading down to MX next month on the 17th and I'll have time to as it's a 2.5 hour drive. I'm like Ed and a creature of habit and don't like change.
