I honestly dont recall, but I believe I did it by the owners manual instructions and it took about 5 minutes
Mine was the same, followed steps in manual and wasn't an issue.

Some you can clone with the remote and some you need to push the learn button on the opener.

I also found you have to be near the door you're programming. I did as SubVet stated and it worked with my main garage door. Then I tried programming two other garage doors for a building several hundred feet from my house. Those two doors did not work. Then I reset the unit (pressing first and last buttons as SubVet mentioned) and tried again, this time with the doors in front of me. All 3 buttons/doors are working great now.

My only complaint is the range on the opener seems rather limited. I have to park in just the right spot to get it to work.

I agree, weak signal. It's close to my dad's 2015 F-150 for the range and way less than my 2015 Explorer which I could be almost 500' away and it worked.

Thats strange. I round a bend in my neighborhood and open the garage 3 houses away. May have something to do with a newer opener that has WiFi....Plus one HAS to use particular LED bulbs specifically for garage door openers...... My range sucked until I changed out the bulbs.

I didn't get mine to program by using the handheld remote in the truck. I ended up hitting the "learn" button on the opener unit in the garage and then pressing the appropriate button on the visor I wanted to use for that door. Worked like a charm for me.

Well, I've never had a problem getting my Garage door opener programmed to any of my vehicles, but damned if I can get it work with the Ranger.
I don't have the handheld remote, so I'm using the learn button.
I'm unsure of the exact sequence, "press and hold desired button for two seconds, then repeat"...
Do I pause in between, wait for light to do something... ?

1. Press the learn button on the garage
door opener motor and then you have
30 seconds to complete the next two
steps.
2. Return to your vehicle.
3. Press and hold the function button you
want to program for 2 seconds, then
release. Repeat this step. Depending
on your brand of garage door opener,
you may need to repeat this sequence
a third time.

Might want to erase any codes:

Erasing the Function Button Codes
Note: You cannot erase individual buttons.
1. Press and hold the outer two function
buttons simultaneously for
approximately 10 seconds until the
indicator light above the buttons
flashes rapidly.
2. When the indicator light flashes,
release the buttons. You erased the
codes for all buttons.

Yep, these are the exact steps I tried.
Didn't work though.
Took me about 2 minutes to program my wife's car, and my Jeep, but no dice on the Ranger...
