I have never seen that happen except for an old rusted out shit box a friend of mine used to have. And he was not gentle on that thing.
Your situation is definitely alarming but as others have said, how isolated is your predicament? Maybe you just got a bad one. Is it expensive to replace those?
I'm sorry you have to deal with that but you might just have to bend over a little bit and have it replaced. Great time for a rear shocks upgrade if you haven't already.
Got quoted $1100 for OEM replacements + $400 in labor, so I decided to go with an ICON kit at the same mechanic which saves 2-3 days and ~$300 in cost. Probably $1100 all said and done with the upgraded kit. Totally freak thing, I'll be filing a report but shit happens I guess.

Wow, that was more than I thought. Glad to hear an upgrade will save you money. Yes, you should definitely file a report, even if you don't get any satisfaction right away. You never know, maybe in the future it will come in handy that you documented it. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on mine and so should everyone else.
Good luck pal, I hope it works out for you.

Hello,

I have a 2019 Ranger that is unfortunately out of the bumper to bumper warranty. Two days ago my Fiancé and I were driving it an noticed something unusual and stopped to check, and the top layer of the passenger leaf spring had totally snapped in half. I personally have never seen this on any truck let alone one that is a 4 year old, 40k miles commuter vehicle. Has anyone else had similar experiences with the springs? I've talked to all my mechanically inclined friends and the mechanic where the truck is currently at, and they all suggested I contact Ford regarding some sort of factory defect prior to having anything done. Ford dealers/ corporate were no use so far. I just wanted to see if this was something of a known issue, thanks.

I attached a picture of the damage below

Hi Zach,

Very uncommon in my experience, but it does happen. Have you had this truck since it was new? Steel has a memory and if you hurt it a bit it remembers the hurt and if you hurt it again it is cumulative. We have no idea what you or your vehicle have experienced, but a fracture analysis would might tell the story...

Anyway...file a complaint with the Ford to put a stake in the ground.... If you can get a pix of the fracture surface of the spring clearly, I might be able to "read" the break for you...but we usually have to use a scanning electron microscope to reveal details.

I have a story here on a steering joint cracking that can explain how a defect in raw steel can result in this sort of failure.

Wish I could be of more help...

Best,
Phil
