Question for Grumpaw - how many times have you been asked in your travels " you tow that with that ? " I tow a modest 4200 lbs trailer and have been asked that question more than a few times by my fellow RVers.

Pretty much at least once every trip. Usually happens when we're at a campground for a few days.
But, the most asked question is about the ClearView mirrors....many times asked about them.

Not meaning to be a wise guy but maybe a lighter trailer or a heavier duty truck is in order
Don't want a lighter trailer and do not need a heavier truck !!! Ranger does just fine towing our rig.
Trouble on this trip had nothing to do with the trailer's size/weight or the Ranger's capability.

He’s probably doing that because it’s a GM engine that had GM problems and broke down?.
Totally joking btw i actually really like classic caddies and chevys.

I appreciate all of the insightful answers. For my own peace of mind I wouldn't tow anything that close to the towing maximum capacity of my vehicle. To each his own that's what makes this a great country. Cheers to all

Towing that kind of weight with this vehicle isn’t easy Grumpa is just a wild man with skill and experience.. I’d highly advise anyone who isn’t very familiar with towing to pull like he does.. for a novice (not implying you’re) I’d say keep it under 3,500, that weight the truck is still relatively comfortable and compliant..that definitely gets less so the closer you get to the “Max” towing (which my opinion is stay as close to or under 6,000 but that’s just me.).. which could be argued that the advertised Max (7,500) is basically just saying yes it can do that, but not necessarily recommended.
Sonin reality I do agree with you.

just to be clear my previous post about being a heathen was just in good fun and didn’t mean any offense (if any offense was taken.. I do apologize.)

This is so true. Just because it can, doesn’t mean you can. Our rangers can handle 8500 lbs as well. Doesn’t mean you should do it. I believe a special license should be required to tow anything over 3500 lbs or where trailer brakes are required.
