Took my Ranger into the shop today for the first time since I bought it in March. About 8K miles. The SXM wont select from sources.
Anyway my service guy said I was way over on an oil change and tire rotation. I told him the sales guy said these trucks only need to go in every 10K. And I thought on my FordPass App it said the same thing. But he said thats a bunch of Bull and you should change and rotate every 5K. With my Taco I had before, I had it in every 5K like clockwork.
How often does everyone else do it?

Your talking to a lube tech. Although I do agree with him but... if this is a Ford Dealer he shouldn’t be telling you that Ford is wrong and you went over your oil change interval.

If you run quality synthetic oil and oil filter, meeting ford specs, 10,000 mile oil changes is not abnormal for our modern engines. An oil analysis will tell the truth. As long as the additive package is still present and theres no abnormal contamination (fuel, silica, and so on), you'll be safe. I plan on splitting the difference at 7,500 mile intervals on Rotella Gas Truck synthetic and an FL-910.

My last vehicle I ran nothing but Royal Purple, and their microfiber filter. With this truck,I plan on going with Amsoil, and their microfiber filter. I will also have the front and rear diffs changed out to Amsoil full synth gear lube.

Dude's doing his job of trying to upsell you on something you don't need. They're trained and encouraged to do that. Don't worry about it.

Hi George,

Not 100% positive, but recall diff are already full synthetic gear lube from the factory, just like old gen Ranger FX4 were.

I do full synthetic every 7.5k. Any less than that seems a bit wasteful, but too much more gives me anxiety.

I’m going to run Amsoil or PP. Both are the best at helping keep LSPI at bay in turbo vehicles.

The "first" oil change was at 1900 miles--Second was at a 4000 mile interval (6000 on the odometer) The vehicle computer said 50% remaining-- After looking at the oil, and reading about possible long term issues with "build up" on the backsides of the intake valves, on the GTDI engine designs, I am going to change mine at tire rotation time--every 3000 miles, both will get done!!
