Really? I was wondering how they replaced them. I am going to a Ford dealership Thursday that has a service and collision department. When I called the office lady didn't seem to know where to book me for "rust" on the roof rail/trim). She seemed to just book me with the service folks, will update how it goes.
Yes, I believe you access the screws that hold those trim pieces in place from the inside.

All metal things rust*. If you want rust proof, get wood, it only rots.

* (ok, ok, if you wan't it rust proof, you need to invest in some interesting metals or alloys (A4) which prevent rusting. Aluminium is not one of em, since it rusts pretty much immediately (but forms a film of aluminium-oxide which is stable)).

P.S. Sorry for this, but years in university learning stuff like welding the nuclear power plant reactor control rods, called back to this post. :)
Not all things metal, including aluminum.

Most metal oxidize, only ferrous metals rust.

*Maybe it's time for more university, I'm just a high school drop-out. LMAO

These trim pieces on the Ranger are pretty easy to remove. Top door trim pieces are held by clips, then get under the edge of the headliner and the four bolts are easily reached. Less than 20 minutes for all 4. The exterior trim piece has 2 sided tape between the screws, so very light pressure to lift them off to avoid bending them.

Given where that’s located I would be tempted to sand it, tape it off and hit it with a shot of rustoleum. No one would ever know.

I think these are heat wrapped. If base metal is dirty it will blister over time. I’m sure Ford doesn’t make these so if a problem arose they would push back on the vendor. Find root cause and move on. So many of us don’t see issues. But, on the off chance we break that wraps seal we could then be open for issues down the road.

If it ever did turn into a problem for me I would remove them, strip off wrap and powder coat after a good prep. That’a more than the factory would do and it would last.

Give you point there. Oxidize would be the correct term and all metals do that. Including gold and other noble metals, although those are highly resistant of oxidation and may need specific conditions to oxidize. Noble gasses like argon are pretty much only stuff which doesn't form an oxide. I think it's just Helium, Neon and Argon.

Are they really that bad?

Honestly it's the first time I buy a new vehicle, and I'm so far not at all impressed with the quality of the Ford ranger.

First I thought this was going to be my forever truck but now I doubt it'll actually last 10 years.

What manufacturer is best with warranty claims?
for paint? most of the guys on here (im generalizing) were not shocked when mine wasn't honored. that being said ford is good for most other stuff. the paint coating is so thin these days.... for example my 2015 focus st was parked in the same driveway for 5 years and had 0 paint issues...

this was not meant to be a scare tactic so sorry if it came across that way- just meant i'd get it in front of them as soon as you find it. good luck man

I'm honestly shocked. I haven't even had the truck for 3 years and I'm already developing rust in one of the black bands (anyone know what they are called?) at the top of the truck.

3 year bumper to bumper literally expires in 2 weeks.

They have replaced 3 of these on mine . Mine were the front caps. They seem to last about a year before the aluminum corrodes they just replaced the second left front one last week. My ranger is a ‘19 and live in SoCal

Mine got replaced a little more than a year ago. I think corrosion/rust (there's more than steel on these) warranty is five years.
