Hey everyone, new member here.
So I recently purchased a 2023 Ranger XLT Tremor, and while on a road trip at about 2000 miles on the truck it began experiencing the characteristic bump from the rear of the vehicle after coming to a complete stop. The harsher the stop, the worse it felt. When accelerating from a stop, it felt less apparent but still present. I experience no noticeable vibrations or shudders while traveling at speed.
What seems different in this case is that after taking it to a dealership and having them grease the slip-yoke, it seemed to do nothing at all. It was still present and didn't feel reduced at all. And the bump is present every single time unless I come to a very gradual stop.
I am now at about 6000 miles and have taken it to another, much larger dealership. After looking at it they ordered a new driveshaft (backorder, no ETA of course), and when I asked for the fault they found they stated there is "excessive play in the carrier bearing." If this is truly the issue, would greasing the slip-yoke at least have some effect on the problem?
I guess my question is, are there alternative causes to the bump when stopping problem experienced with Rangers? Just seems really weird to me that greasing the slip-yoke splines wouldn't at least reduce the issue, and if that didn't affect it at all I am skeptical that a new driveshaft will fix it.
I am wondering if there's something else going on, like the rear suspension extending during braking as there is forward body pitch and that its sticking or otherwise creating a bump. The bump for me seems to happen right after the vehicle returns to level just after the forward pitch from braking.
