Have 600 miles on my Ranger....One tank fill so far, but I'm barely squeezing out 17MPG. I'm driving normal to conservative and was expecting much better gas mileage. Some of you are getting well over 20-22 MPG so I'm scratching my head here.

mine has been disappointing as well. 16-17 in town and 19-20 highway. granted i did put heavier tires on, removed the air dam, and raised the front a couple inches, so some loss was expected. still alot better than the 10/13 i got on my last truck

Mine runs between 21 and 26 depending on type of driving. Got better after the first 1000 miles.

Mine was the same for 18 months. Was getting 18mpg. Then in spring time gas went up. Now, it's my wife that drives it most of the time & I had noticed she was a little hard on the pedal. I mentioned it to her but she got a little upset at me.... So, when the gas went up, she changed her driving method. Now she is very light on the gas off a stop sign & asap hits CC & do max speed 60mph.
We are now doing constant 23 mpg. This is 50/50 driving.
Stop & go is a killer.
It's heavy, will suck gas on take offs. Turbo fun does not help.

The engine isn't even close to being broke in yet. Give it a couple thousand miles and you should see some improvement. Of course this all depends on driving style, city/highway driving and any mods done.

When I added my level kit and larger tires (265/70/17) I lost about 2 mpg but when I tuned mine and started running 91 I gained that back. My average is 22.5 with mostly city (80%) driving. The best I got on our road trip in June was 26.9. That was going from CO-WY and averaging 80 mph with a few WOT in there too.

Mine was worse the first thousand miles. Afterthat it's been pretty consistent.:
Current tank:

Lifetime- I've never reset this tripmeter:

  • I've used Motorcraft 5w30 semi synthetic oil (Quick Lane) exclusively. 87oct. E-10 fuel.
  • Truck is bone stock, SuperCab, FX4 pkg. STX SE pkg (18in wheels) with a soft roll up box cover.
  • Driving is mostly exurban/rural 55-65mph two lane w/25-45 mph small towns, with a little 70mph freeway and urban stop & go.
  • ASS almost always engaged.
  • Stock 265/60R18 Hankooks at recommended 30psi checked weekly w/dial gauge
  • All time best tankful: 31.3mpg US 6 eastbound thru Nebraska (downhill mostly)
  • All time worst tankful: 15.6mpg I-90 westbound thru SD 80mph, crosswind-headwind, and no load!
I try to coast more, break less, check tire psi often, easy acceleration; old semi driver habits.
I use the +/- buttons to keep the revs above 14-1500 RPM in town; I don't like the short shift calibration the 10R80 has. The most un-automatic transmission I've ever had.

Impressive considering bigger tires. I'm still on OEM tires! Interesting your mileage got better with the tune. I've been wondering if it's been worse or better to get the tune. Thx

Mine took about 13,000 miles to really get better. I see 25-26 highway now. Before it was 20-21. I don’t drive aroubd town, so can’t comment there.

Good to know. I drive like you, but I'm also in Kalifornia so I have plenty of mixed terrain - hills, etc.

Mine got 19-21 at first. Over time, it increased to 23.7 for about 2 years. Past several months, it has increased to 25.9. Everything stock. 4x4, no tunes, same Hankook tires.

Mine is good on the highway and sucks in town. Was that way from the beginning. I guess it's just the nature of the beast, and then I added the front level so I only have myself to blame for some of the problem. Now that the oil companies figured out how to screw us with the "benefits" of "winter gas" I usually notice another 2-3 mpg hit once they switch over ??

I felt my motor 'Cross the Rubicon' at around the 4,000 mark break-in wise. 12,484 miles as of today - still not fully broke in. Ford Ecoboost Tune installed before 3,000 miles. Currently averaging just under 22 mpg in my urban/rural mix.

Ethanol blended gasolines will lower your average, along with low octane fuel. Ecoboost motors LOVE premium grade fuels and ICE motors in general prefer ethanol free gasolines. 93 E0 is available where I live, but pricey. I'm retired so I drive little anymore.

Only the 2019 'Johnny Weissmuller Limited Edition' Lariat came standard with the factory moonroof. :)
