Howdy!

New Ranger owner and 5g member in the Tennessee mountains.

After reading almost every post on this forum, reading every review, discussing it with my wife and daughter, and a test drive in North Carolina, I purchased a 2021 XL with the STX and FX4 packages. It's time for our daughter's first vehicle and she wanted a truck. Things worked out so that instead of a used Nissan/ Toyota/ etc. we were able to purchase the Ranger, spend a few months getting it where we want while our daughter works and saves up a down payment, and then sell it to her after I've paid it down some and it's set up how she wants. (how we want) Daughter and I decided to name the FX4 Mosby.

My initial thoughts, after about 9 months and 19,000 miles:

I'm very impressed! The Ranger is a real truck and handles everything exceptionally well.

It can haul everything for a remodel we're doing... and haul ass! So far I've smoked a Tacoma, a Ram Diesel, and had some interstate fun with a BMW.

Mosby can take the ladies and myself in comfort to the ballet... and claw it's way up rocks and through mud holes to the mountain tops.

So far, with my daughter's help, we've done the following:

  • Tailgate letters
  • Smoked chrome Ford emblems (thanks to forum members who posted tips on how to do this without taking off the front end)
  • Spray in Bullet liner
  • Ford swing out tool box (this is awesome, and I'll probably get one for the other side of the bed)
  • 20% tint
  • Turbo badges (hate the name "EcoBoost," and wanted to add a splash of red)
  • Engine cover
  • (3) oil changes with Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic (daughter loves crawling under the truck and turning wrenches)
  • (2) coats of 303 graphene coating (thanks 5g for informing us of this product)

Our goals before she takes Mosby:

  • Hard bed cover
  • CAI, charge pipes, catted downpipe, exhaust, and a custom tune (we intend to dyno and run the truck at the track before and after these mods to see what effect our hot rodding efforts have)
  • Lift/ suspension upgrades. I want to lift the truck 2"-2.5" in the front and 1" in the rear (Yes, Frenchy... I'm aware of, and considering, Old Man Emu)
  • Strong but lightweight wheels and 32"-33" tires
  • Graphics. Originally we were going to go with black, but lately I've been considering a light-medium gray for a "ghosted" effect
Thanks to everyone here for tons of valuable information and some great humor.

Eventually, Mosby and HillFolk will be taken over by our daughter... Unless I decide to buy myself a Ranger. Honestly, I love this little truck and I may very well do just that.

Welcome to the forum. You're daughter (and you of course) have good taste in trucks. And I'm sure the quality time you spend with her working on the truck is priceless.

Thanks for the welcome.

Yes, it's a blast working on the Ranger with her. The time together, her questions, the fun stuff that happens like her almost smacking me with the ratchet when it slipped off a bolt... It's truly priceless!

Reminds me of when I would help my dad, except I haven't asked her to "hold that plug while I crank the engine to see if it's gettin' fire..." (It was getting good fire)

"Mosby" doesnt seem to fit it well for a name.

Looks suspiciously like a "Fred" to me.
Well... It's a very historical name, and actually quite clever.

It ties in with the color and model of the truck.

I'd be impressed if anyone figured it out... but you, Ranger Pride, might be capable of doing so.

If it was a tremor, Fred Ward would fit it well.
One of our favorite fun movies!

If I purchased a tremor, I'd have to work in something about "Graboids," etc.

Fred passed away last month, RIP.

RIP. It's incredible they made 7 movies.

If I had a tremor I would title my post "Burt Gummer Build".
