Wife has a 54 mi round trip (almost all highway) m-f for work. City occasionally during week and on weekends.

This will be designated grandkid hauler (2 in the near future).

Thinking SUV type vehicle, hybrid or phev.

Replacing a 2012 Fusion.

Must have rear hvac. I've been in the back of the Fusion with the grandkid and it's surprisingly not fun.

Heated front seats would be good.

Has to have some power, she complains about getting on the highway with the Fusion.

Better accessibility for getting grandkids in and out of car seats.

I started looking this morning and there is a lot out there, figured I'd tap into the knowledge base here.

I went and drove a cx5 (cobalt edition I think is what it's called) about a year ago and it was a hard no from the wife based on looks ? I'll try again. I looked at the cx5 based on reviews I read back then.

Possibly buying outright so limit is probably 40ish. Researching new but low mile 1 or 2 yr old is an option also.

I have a Toyota RAV4 right now for my insurance rental. I have to admit it's pretty darn nice and the ride is very good too. I don't know much about them and I've never really looked into any SUV but based on driving it for the last 3 weeks I think it's worth looking into them.

Before this one I had a Nissan Murano for 3 days. You could feel every crack/bump in the road and it wasn't nearly as comfortable as the Rav4. Both had similar miles (50K) too.

I have had 2 escapes and an edge now. they have a hybrid option. plenty of room for a couple of carseats in the back. we always get the titanium versions so can't speak to the lower trim levels. I loved the escapes. Edge is a little bit bigger and roomier

We are on our 3rd Escape for the wife. We have the SE Hybrid sport AWD. I actually think it's a good all around vehicle. It has a good ride, is quiet and gets 39+ mpg. We got it new in 2020 for $28.995.

We have a 2022 Maverick lariat hybrid. A great all around vehicle. Plenty of interior room for car seats plus a bed for carrying extra stuff. You actually sit down into it instead of stepping up into it. It’s my wife’s but I didn’t think I would like it. It’s actually a very decent vehicle and great mileage with plenty of power.. Actually we were both pleasantly surprised, didn’t like the 1 year wait though..

MSRP on the cheapest trim with AWD & Hybrid is now 37K. Thanks Ford.

Hybrid is not available in AWD, Ecoboost AWD still gets decent mileage..
Yes it is. I didn’t make that number up. Guess you didn’t look at Ford’s builder

CPO BMW X3. X5 if you can afford, but the X3 is cheaper.

Best SUV you'll ever drive.
