I think they would eventually save some money if they offered the manual option...just saying

If the take rate were higher, I’m sure they would. Last few manual cars I got I had to order them and wait for it to get built. Doesn’t matter if it was VW, Nissan, or GM. They are all dropping manuals like flies…

I really hope the dealer is trying to do the right thing by another reflash and letting me drive it as is.

My guess is 1 or 2 things will happen: the problems will come back and need additional repairs, or 2. The issues will go away and hopefully stay that way past the warranty period.

We will see, sucks being without the truck for a few days.

Sonnax already has EVERYTHING you'd need to make this trans bullet proof, mechanically. But the factory shift strategy would remain.

If it was me, D would probably be start in 2nd unless in tow or sport, then go 4-5-7-9-10 and I wouldnt lock the converter up until the vehicle ran 50+ for at least 30 seconds.

Tow would run 1-10, with double the line pressures and the converter wouldn't lock up for at least a minute at 50+.

Sport...well, I race. You can imagine. I'd also re-imagine the shifter. push it sideways for sport, then up and down shift manually from a center position. The button is weird to me.

Mentioned the TSB to dealer in a voicemail, haven’t heard whether or not they can service the unit or will the flash fix it. They are supposed to look at tomorrow, if I don’t hear back in a few days I’ll just assume a case with Ford has been opened.

No call from dealer, I left a VM, this is starting to feel like more than a “flash and test drive” repair…

Truck has been at the dealer since last week.

And yes, I did make an appointment well in advance, I know dealers can get busy and backed up on work.

Here's a pretty good paper on the painfully deficient 10R80 in the Modern Ranger.

https://nextgendiesel.com/blogs/transmissions-101/ford-10r80-transmission-problems-solutions

When my truck is beyond the warranty. I'll be saving myself a giant tow bill and upgrading every aspect of this poorly offered transmission. It makes me shake my head when OEMs produce something that is so on the edge of failure from the very jump. In my mind, it's borderline criminal. Certainly unethical.

In fact, many people experience a rapid decline in transmission health with so little as 33" tires (sorry Raptor guys), nevermind removing emissions components or using a tuner (sorry Mustang folks too).
The Suncoast build for the 10R80 doesn't recommend their billet torque converter until HP hits 650+ so I don't think that's needed for our 5G Ecoboost. You guys with 33's might see a reason to consider a tranny build and programming but it does seem Sonnax has a good list of solutions. Nexgen offers a built CDF assembly they call the 'cherry bomb.' It's worth mentioning the latest version of Forscan allows transmission throttle body code updates.
