So I did a recent oil change on my Ranger using Motorcraft Oil filter...
Found a deal on AMZN & ordered five of 'em...

Received them today & I inspected them... they look completely different then the one I purchased "retail" some time ago...
Logo on the new one are stickers & the cap end doesn't have the typical Indentations like a typical Motorcraft filter...

What do you think?

Here's the old one I removed while completing my oil change....

Forgot to mention:

So I still have another/extra "retail" and painted-label version on my garage shelf... and grabbed it to compare.

I examined the oil-openings... they look the same & have the same numerical markings too.

Just by holding in hand, they feel like they weigh the same too... both feel top heavy...

Ohhh... guess there's a change in design or supplier after-all...

By the way, what's Wally World charging for them?

Mororcraft did change their labeling in the last year to combat piracy and counterfeit items. All of the items in plastic bag packaging has two holes at the top corners. Helps with trapped air and counterfeiting. There are articles online explaining how to tell the difference and what to watch out for. eBay and Amazon are loaded with counterfeit

Exactly....
But oil filters are in paper/cardboard boxes...

Besides, retail stores have already raised oil-filter prices around me...

On AMZN, It's still $3.97 per filter w/ free shipping... so I figured "why, not" I'll chance it...

I grabbed it a couple of weeks ago. Don't remember exactly, but want to say it was around 4 bucks.

I use FL-400-S size for the slightly larger oil capacity & I've been using this same size filter in my Focus RS, SVTF & Tacoma 4-Cyl too.

Makes shopping & re-stocking simple...

COUNTERFIET!

Ordering online, save for folks like Levittown Ford, will get you into "dutch" every single time! Reminds me of the old saying...

Save a dime, get screwed every time!

Since the printing is different I'd Google some things for evidence that it's counterfeit. It's possible Ford uses different manufacturers building filters to the same specs though.

I thought it was common knowledge not to order anything important off Amazon. There were chinese knockoffs of Fram oil filters years ago and they leaked oil.

Hell I had a ladder snap that I ordered off Amazon! I returned it and checked back later to find "refurbished" models for sale.

I pay full freight for a Ford filter at the local autozone. I don't buy much there but I recycle a lot of oil sometimes so I try to buy something. I ran wix on my truck once. If I did extended change intervals I'd run wix but since I change every 5K I just go with the Motorcraft.
