Anyone have more information on the trail controls mechanism? Found a quote that mentions it used electric motors to manage but nothing else that I can find on the subject.

“Ford says the technology is driven by electric motors, where Toyota's crawl control is a vacuum-based system.”
Skip to minute 2 of this video to see the Tacoma jerk and hiccup while in Crawl Control mode. The Ranger with Trail Control is much better.

In depth video of Trail Control. Can adjust speed in 1/2 MPH increments up to 10 MPH. Can go 5 MPH in reverse.

Some nice Auto-X action in the Ranger.

I hear some wheel spin on the launch he did. Turbo spoils quick and the torque seems almost instant.

Rduvall, if you really want an eye opener for comparisons, take a look at each model's tow capacity for a non-braked trailer. The information can be found in each model's owners manual online. Our Ranger (at 1,650#) isn't the class leader in this category but sure beats the heck out of a Tacoma (1,000#).

BTW, this is my first post. Ordered my Ranger last week. The wait has begun.

Da hell? So the Tacoma Crawl Control also jerks like that when using it on steep terrain? :surprised:

Not a huge difference but the owner's manual states the gas tank is 18.8 gallons.

Tacoma has good clearance but still jerks in Crawl Control mode. Colorado is bad in every category, not a true competitor to Tacoma or Ranger. I assume the Colorado ZR2 trim is better but it's pricey.

They didn’t use the ZR2 in fear of its air bags going off. Hah.

After seeing those videos, I cannot believe how bad the angles are on the Z71 Chevy.

And the trail control for the Tacomas sound suspect, personally I never have used it myself

Ok, don't bash my head but.... One point to keep in mind is that several of the demonstration tests we have seen over the last several weeks "could" be set up to favor any one of these trucks. This can be done by spacing the obstacles to take better benefit of the wheelbase of the desired truck. Again, don't get me wrong here as I'm fully in the Ranger's court (else I wouldn't have committed 40K to the cause).

That said, the trail control on the Tacoma sure looks like it is having problems!
