I just installed a set of these new-design tires in 265/65R17. After about 200 miles of driving, my initial impression is that these are the quietest snow tires I have ever driven. We’ve been through several generations of the X-Ice, a half dozen or so sets of Blizzaks, three different models of Nokians, one Continental. All of them get noisier as the tread wears down, especially the Blizzaks. We’ll see how these wear-in, but it looks like this is a real winner for Michelin. Tire Rack should have a side-by-side test of them before too long. X-Ice has always finished a close second to the Blizzaks for braking distance on snow and ice, but these are supposed to be better than the previous generation. I am cautiously optimistic that this new X-Ice is worth the $50/ tire price premium over the Blizzak.
