It's not the angle, but the surface area. McGards do not have a flange, and the cone has ~50% less seating face to engage the rim.
Different degrees will give you more or less surface area. You may be ? correct? I just know that I run McGards on every vehicle I’ve owned since the late 70’s including my 2010 F150 (with 98k miles)that I traded in on my Ranger and I never had any issues. Iv always ordered direct from McGard for specific vehicles.

50%? How did you come up with that? are you taking bulge acorn or just their acorn?
I came up with less than 20% less.
See my post HERE with my numbers and lack of conclusion LOL
Granted these are DP but from the images I have seen all th bulged acorn look more or less the same.

If you go to McGard's site you can get application by vehicle. They list four for Rangers (I was just looking last night) a chrome and a black for OE wheels and a chrome and a black for aftermarket wheels. They cost more but are guaranteed for life. I've used them as replacements on several vehicles in our family. If you hold one in your hand and another lug nut in your other hand you will see that the McGards are noticeably heavier. They are not always the same size as the OE so may need to keep another lug wrench in the vehicle although the ones I saw on their site seem to be the same size as stock.
Was just out to the Mcgard site. Yes they list two sizes if nut for the Ramger. One bulge and one straight hex. Saw no mention of OEM wheels vs aftermarket wheels. But you bring up a good point. If you ate running aftermarket wheels the area required may not be the same as OEM. If you are running OEM wheels you really should maintain the OEM bearing area, which is apparently more than many aftermarket lug nuts. The 60 degree angle appears pretty universal, so diameters are a good comparison.

On the only other forum I use, I learned "~" means approximately, and "?~" means guesstimate. I was only sticking a number in there based on my guess, and intended a question mark to be there. Wasn't trying to represent factual numbers.

Last I looked I couldn't find any McGard flange acorn M12x1.5, they were all tapered from the 13/16 hex with no flange at all. I didn't yet, and will not be doing the math, but certainly would have guessed higher than 20%.

The solo lug on the left is what I based that guess on.

All good
For that lug the max upper diameter would be 13/16 or 0.81. So def worse thatn what I measured.
A 13/16 bulge acorn may be the ticket!

Just purchased their 84658 installation set (~$79 w/o tax). It includes black 4X (5) 1.5L 60 Deg cone lock nuts + (1) lock nut. Calculating the across points dim for the .81 (13/16") across flats dim is .94. Hopefully without any other issue that's larger than the .91 dim shown in 'Jacksmydog" post and should work. Also, I think I read this is larger than the standard Ford lug wrench size.

Remember unless it is a bulge nut like shown at the bottm you only have full bearing surface out to the across flats dimension, not the across points dimension.

Well I cancelled the order. Thanks. Someday a black bulged quality set will be available

I suspect, every wheel thief has a complete set of anti-thift sockets. Or, they have one of those tapered sockets. They don't have flats per se, rather they have six rather sharp spines inside. You just jab them on, and twist off any anti-theft nut you want.

Oh! And let's not forget a pocket full of juggle keys!

Is there a recommended set of lugnuts, any brand, that *does* fit the OEM Ranger wheels correctly? Would my 2021 STX still have the problem of the two-piece lugs?

copying my comment from other threads. As I said earlier the big 3 appear to have identical designs. This picture is DPAccessories

My last pic on this topic - Had a metric bolt in my Hdw pile and threaded the 2 together. You can really see the difference! Sending these back....
Probably will go Dorman and stay with chrome, just in case the black coating has an impact on retention.

Dorman part # ?
Indeed, as this seems to be nearly the "last word" on proper quality lugnuts for the OEM wheels.
I get the opinion they're expensive...

From that link I found out that O'Reilly Auto Parts sells Dorman products. I may well just drop by one and see what's what.
