I do not like Amazon on principle and do not support them. I would happily pay more for a product at an actual store than have it arrive at my door the next day. Maintenance items and parts purchased form NAPA in town.

I run the Rotella 5w30 "gas truck" oil. I'd like to know the % of synthetic in the ford blend. It costs about the same as the Rotella for the 5 qt jug. I do 5K change intervals

The problem with the term 'synthetic' is that it is such a blurred line these days. People put a lot of importance on that term as opposed to looking at the finished product. You can have a poorly formulated Group 4 or 5 oil be beat, performance-wise, by a group III which isn't a 'true' synthetic. Even 'conventional' oils these days usually contain some 'synthetic' base stocks and additives, so what's a person to do?

Don't get hung up on labels, look at the performance and make your call from there. The newest rated oils are all great performers over what was top-of-the-line even a few years ago. Pick an 'SP' rated oil that carries the proper Ford specs and roll with it. Your engine will die from something else long before an oil-related problem.

(Of course, with the timing chains and fuel dilution issues, it is probably best to keep those changes around 5000 miles regardless of oil type.)

Anything with “blend” in it do yourself a favor and take a pass on it. If I’m cheaping it Mobile 1 advanced formula. Alternative is more expensive but worth it is Amsoil. Filter quality is just as important as your oil choice. Motorcraft, Mobile1 or Wix

As I'm sure @P. A. Schilke will join this in time he will have good input in this.

My thoughts are simple. Ford knows what they are doing. If thier oil wasnt up to snuff they wouldnt have it. If it calls for Synthetic blend(thier particular formula) as a minimum then run it. If you want to run Full Synthetic then run the Ford Full Synthetic.

Ford already states that Full Synthetic is not required unless you are in extreme cold climate(-20°F).

Will running a differnt oil ruin the engine? Well if it does not meet Fords specifications then it is possible but then again hiw do you know if the oil meets Fords specifications?

With that said just run the Ford Motocraft Oil.

I couldn't agree more. I work at a John Deere dealership and have learned over the years the OEM's know what they're talking about

From my dealers Service manager- they no longer use Ford synthetic blend, they have discovered that there is no rule stating how much synthetic oil has to be in the blend that allows it or any other Synthetic blend to label it as such , so they have switched to using Valvoline full synthetic, unless the customer specifically asks for the synthetic blend.
It's not like food or over the counter meds etc that have to label the percentages of products in most cases. Kinda like drinks that have fruit flavors, read the fine print most say contains no fruit juice.

Lol with that said I would not go to that dealership. Why you ask? Well they more ormless are refusing to use Fords stuff.

It's been the leading Roush dealership in the nation many times over and the only one in the state that is a Ford GT dealer, the owner is the single contact point for GT and he maintains a mechanic that only services them. I am good with it.
