It will be a mid-travel setup, but it will be done my way... :)
Now we're talking, get your research on brotha!! Seriously tho, stay open minded the 5G setup doesn't have the selection like what you can go out and buy for older rangers.

Look I'm almost done with my Mechanical Engineering degree, I have a degree in Advanced Manufacturing, was a machinist for 3 years in this day of age's modern technology, and now I program machines to inspect missile components. I didn't get where I'm at by some degree in school, I got here from my hands on experience and can do it attitude. The school is a bonus that makes sense because I know how things are made and I can actually make them. That being said, from my perspective it's not the brand itself, it's the selection of materials, the processes involved from raw stock to a badass setup on your ride how you like it. Now King has made a name for itself by standing behind great materials, processes, and proven mechanics, but they aren't the only ones.

So go out there and build it your way!

Hi Danny,

I based my Ford career on Can Do. I was told many times...."you can't do that" (because I could not or did not think of it"). I told them...oh yeah...stand back and watch me. Who would have ever thought you could road race a Ranger Pickup truck... I was told to forget it, but I did and I created a whole racing series in the SCCA for pickup trucks.

Do not give up...if you fail (I did many times)...fall back and try again... Screw the nay sayers. The word is JFDI....

I've been told I couldn't do things and now I work for one of the worlds biggest defense companies. Actually, when I would find a way to get something done, I would feel lucky. People would tell me "yea well this special situation happened" and to be completely honest that's starting to sound like crap to me because it's not luck if things continuously fall in place it's called hard work and not taking no for an answer. Thanks ?

Back to the whole king backup, I personally want to configure some sort of Bilstein combination.

I now have 5100's with a 3" lift eibach coil with a 550 spring rate. I couldn't find anyone who had done it, so I took a risk. Its great on road but its too soft. Hah, back to the drawing board. So the 5100's have a nice stroke length of 4.67, but there is no remote resi, and the diameter is just under 2". Nothing beefy by far. I had them as an upgrade over stock but with my LT kit I need to eventually upgrade.

I just saw that Bilstein has a new 6112 coilover that has a 60mm diameter and their own coils, not sure of the spring rate. These would be an upgrade but I would prefer something similar to the oem 2.5 kings. I would be fine buying a coilover shock with a remote resi without the coil and I buy my own eibach coils. The oem top and bottom mounting designs are different than on universal coilovers, and I wonder if I can order coilovers with the oem mounts. There's something out there I just haven't found it yet.

Bilstein has nice bypasses and bump stops that I am highly considering.

P.S. I have been reading the book Chassis Engineering that came out in 1995 and it has explained so much!

It's not just the Rangers they are backed up on everything. We are awaiting a suspension for our 2020 Sprinter Van 4x4 project at work. It was ordered back in December. That being said the interior wont be finished for a few more weeks. Fingers crossed they come in before that. Nice to get paid haha

Yeah, I understood they were backed up on everything. It's one thing for us to not be able to get Kings for our hoopties, but I feel badly for all the racers who need to get their King shocks serviced...

TN Ranger, do you own or work for a shop that does Sprinter stuff?

One of the west coast shops that I used to run, started out as a rotary Mazda race shop back in the '80s. I worked there, but was not running it at that time. They sponsored my NHRA Pro ET rotary Mazda race car. Eventually they changed their name to something more "Upscale", and evolved into a service facility, adding Honda service. That was when I was running it. After I quit, they eventually evolved into a Sprinter shop and over the next 30 years the business changed hands. So it's the same name, and the same building, but instead of porting rotary engines, they're different people, installing expedition accessories on Sprinter vans.

I stopped by there the last time I was in the area, and it was funny, thinking back to when the building had just been built, and I was standing there in an empty building with the owners, discussing a floor plan and where we should put the walls, and the lifts, and the waste oil tanks, and stuff like that...
