Here are a few pics before the Ranger heads out on it's first long road trip. Embark LS cover, Yakima Overhaul HD, and Yakima Skybox 16 Carbonite. Time to add some more stickers to the Skybox!

That looks awesome! I can't wait for my first trip.

I am considering that cover. How do you feel about the lost space in the bed? It really has be on the fence. Also, you had to get a special kit to fit the Overhaul HD to the T-slot rails, correct?

Yes - more deets on the rack and cover. I'm planning on the same Overhaul (but for Kayaks) HD system, but I was thinking about the OEM retractable cover. What was the decision to go with Embark over Retrax?

They are the same (Embark/Retrax) for all intents and purposes. They however must be purchased separately, Embark from a Ford dealership and Retrax from the manufacturer/supplier.

Yes, the Embark LS/Retrax cover does take up a little room in the front of the bed but it honestly isn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. There is still room to slide things enderneath the canister and we (my wife and I) are very happy with the cover. As far as the rack goes, if you order the Overhaul HD kit through Ford, part number VKB3Z-9955100-A, then it will come with everything you need to mount it to the Embark LS/Retrax bed cover. If you were local to Southern California (inland empire area) then I could get you a great deal on the Ford part number.

Thanks for the insights on the cover and the part number on the Overhaul HD. I have seen conflicting info about the size of the canister on the Retrax. Is its cross section approximately 11" x 11" or 13" x 13"?

Unfortunately, I am located in Kansas but thanks for the offer.

Grand Canyon, Moab, and a bunch of other camping/hiking spots throughout Arizona and Utah. As far as the Skybox goes, we put all our soft stuff in it. Things like sleeping bags, luggage, air mattresses, tents, etc. this is one is the 16 cubic foot one and it holds a LOT of our crap. We bought the Skybox when we had our Subaru. When we traded the Subaru in for the Ranger, we still wanted to be able to use the Skybox so that is why we went with the Embark LS/Overhaul setup. We really like how much crap we can now put in the bed and the Skybox.

I went with the Ford version (Embark LS) over Retrax because I can get a better deal through Ford. I like the rack and the fact that I can retain the bed cover when I use it. I also like the fact that Yakima has a lifetime warranty, you can attach a LOT of other rack products to it, and everything just works. It is a little pricey for what it is but I got a really good deal by going through Ford.

Thanks for throwing this up! I've been looking at doing a headache rack with the metal retractable box but this roller assembly may fit my needs. I need to look into the weight limits on it(anyone have info?).

I've been looking at Yakima too (13" fixed). 1000lb static, 500lb highway, 300lb offroad. I'm drawn to the fact that it can be quickly removed while the base plate stays onboard.

Keep in mind, if you are using the Overhaul Hd with the Embark Ls/Retrax bed cover that your load capacity drops to 300 pounds on road and 180 pounds off road.
