For the march 2022 recall (21C24, or NHTSA 21V756), is the replacement folding headrest the same as the 2019 folding version, eg this one?

I have a 2021 that came with fixed headrest, and given the time/etc dealing with the dealers, i might just purchase them. But, if the new headrest is new/better, it might be worth the hassle to take it in.

Thanks :)

Yes yours is one that should be under the recall.
My 2021 SuperCab came with the non folders....under recall dealer ordered the folders and I had them a week later.
Just take it to your dealer, they'll eyeball it, and order them. You should have no problem with the dealer...it's a Ford recall under NHTSA.

Thanks. I know it's covered. My question was something else though:
Is the replacement folding headrest the same as the 2019 folding version

Should be the same. here's pic's of the replacements I received. Don't use them as I replaced my back seat with a rear seat delete set up. Keeping them so I can revert if needed.

I see -- thanks for the photos and details, that's helpful :)
I'll look to buy these headrests online, then, given the hassle with a dealer that also doesn't have parts.

Related to that, if anyone is willing to sell their used 2019 or 2022+ folding headrest (Stone color), let me know .

It is not. the 2019 version of the folders have a slightly different notch that locks into the seat. I bought 2019 folders before the recall, and they did not lock in until i widened the notch with a dremel. The warranty headrests lock right in without modification.

Why would you want to pay for something that is free ?
You may have a bad dealer, but under the recall he MUST order them for you.
There may be a wait as dealers don't usually carry them, and the length of wait may be determined by interior color/material.
If you get any problem with your dealer, a call to Ford corporate usually fixes things and gets them moving.

I have a 21 with fixed headrests front and rear. I looked online and there was no recall?
Maybe I am misunderstanding the post.

Is yours a Crew or Cab ?
The recall only applies to SuperCabs.

OOOPS ! Saw your is a Tremor...means 4 door SuperCrew.....recall doesn't apply to yours.

The headrest issue was Supercab only. The headrests can get in the way of a booster or car seat being installed, but before the recall the only way to remove them was to unbolt the seat back, remove it and then bolt the seat back.
The folding headrest is just Ford's easy way of allowing it to be removed using a design they already had. The rear seats on a SuperCrew fold down, so the headrest can be removed without a 13mm socket wrench.
I really like that I can fold them out of my view, but that's just a happy side effect and not Ford being generous.

I have 22 Screw, had fixed rear headrests and I bought & installed Folding Style, the Headrest rods have a different notch (locking) style, but they work (Fold Down -Out of Rear Window View)
The locking notch, I'm not worried about, they seem to stay in place, I may visit on what to do with this issue latter, (Possibly swap my factory rod over to the new headrest or replaced the headrest guides to match the new folding ones

FYI: I think the part numbers below are the (older) style, like poster above stated he had to widen notch with Dremel

My original factory rods - look like the one in the pic- posted above

It's difficult to locate exact part numbers through Ford parts as there are variations between Scab and Screw - So, I used part numbers from another member who has a Scab, I have not found any exact part numbers for Folding Screw, from what I can tell the Folding are only installed on the Scab - As far as parts diagrams go

Here is the Part #'s I ordered (if anybody's interested)

Note: These do not come with cover, you have to swap it over

(Right) Headrest, Outer - Ford (FU5Z-78611A08-AC)
(Left) Headrest, Outer - Ford (FU5Z-78611A09-AC)

You have to swap the cover over to them, and (cut hole around button IF you want the button to be visible-it works just fine with button hidden though.

Question:
I have a 22 Lariat Screw, I have already swapped my Rear Fixed non-folding headrests to folding, but the question is: Did the Crew Cabs ever come with the Rear Folding? or Have they always been fixed?

The '19 SCrews came with the folders.

Will a 2023 order come with the updated folders?
