I finally installed the Akron Heavy duty mounting arm and tablet bracket. Unit installs to the inner passenger seat railing, I utilized the existing nut and added a washer for more security.
I’ll be using my iPad Pro with the Gaia GPS app for navigation, whenever I lose cell reception and also when ford ranger navigation unit doesn’t have enough details for the areas I’m exploring.

looks good. Doesn't seem to have an option for a ball mount though: I have good table holders, just need a good mount

Find a local police auction (or govdeals website) and modify a RAM laptop mount base. Was surprisingly easy when I did it. Granted I use a laptop, I believe RAM probably makes a tablet mount for these. If you end up having a " rather large" co-pilot you can disconnect the base in just a few minutes and remove it.

Can't get more sturdy than a mount for police cruisers.
