iOS 14.5 beta breaks CarPlay

Beware Apple beta testers - For those that use iPhone and like to test beta builds DO NOT install 14.5 beta. It will break CarPlay and reverting back is a PITA.

Well dang it! I wonder what the difference is? Other forums are reporting similar problem. Sync will not pull up CarPlay at all. Uninstalled, forgot, reinstalled etc.

I had the same issue. There's a known "bug" for the 14.5 beta concerning that. Reddit had some more info. Has to do with "sharing contacts via carplay" or something.

I'm on an iPhone 12 Pro Max. Headunit is on 3.4 update (official).

Thanks. Sorry it happened to you as well. Epic failure on Apple but being beta tester hopefully saves the rest from this fate later. Now to drag out the old Samsung s9 and relive the glory days of Android Auto until Apple gets it together.

Android auto got so bad for me that I just stopped using it. Carplay (while it worked) started almost instantly and allows me to use more apps. Android wouldn't even start half the time. I like the mask / watch unlokc feature on the iPhone, and it's mounted right by the radio anyway, so I'll just deal with using the phone directly for now.

Oh, Apple Maps have added accident, hazards and speed trap reporting features. Finally time to leave Waze and google maps too.

14.5 here and Apple Play will not come on now.

Mine isn't broken exactly but its iffy about starting up since the update. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Well, I learned my lesson, again. Time to turn off the beta profile or at least wait a couple weeks before downloading. I hope they get it fixed soon. I need to go provide some feedback. But I guess that’s why they call it a beta, We are warned about this stuff in the agreement to be test subjects. And provide feedback about what they broke ??

My Apple car play seems to be fairly stable after the official upgrade to 3.4
I still have issues with Amazon Music not giving me access to my entire playlist but other than that it's working well. I am running iOS 14.4 on iPhone 8.

You should be good to go. It’s the 14.5 beta that killed it. If you’re a normal user, you shouldn’t see an issue. Beta testers get the glory of testing new features and finding the flaws such as this. It’s a thankless job ?

Very thankless...
we have had some squirreliness going on with apple car play in Sync 3.3 and 3.4
wish Ford would get that worked out.
