Our Rangers have HVAC controls that are common with other Ford vehicles....namely the Edge.
Ranger (not mine, found this on the internet):
Edge:
The biggest difference in that on the Ranger, the dividers between the buttons are black plastic and on the Edge they are chrome.
Now I don't know about you, but when I look down at all those buttons at night, I can't tell where one button starts and the next button ends. In my wife's Edge, the chrome separation really helps when trying to figure out where the actual button is that you are reaching for. Especially when I'm turning on the seat heater or adjusting the fan speed.
Plus it just looks cooler. It would also go nice with the chrome volume / tune knobs too.
I'm considering seeing if I can find a wrecked Edge on Ebay / Partsfinder and grab the HVAC controls to see if It is just a plug and play.
