My 2019 Ranger is scheduled to head back to the dealer in December (6 weeks) wait for Transmission issues. Shutter when giving it a little acceleration after taking your foot off the gas. I'd like to have the DPFE replaced since many say is causes problems that seem like transmission issues.

How do I convince the dealer to replace it? I have 8 years / 125k premium care.

Thanks

Honestly I understand the principle of it.. though I feel the head ache of it outweighs just replacing it yourself brother..
Sorry that doesn’t address your question directly, I feel it does address your overall issue (if the DFPE is the sole issue).
It’s a fairly inexpensive part and reasonably easy to do the replacement by oneself.

so if it’s the principle of the matter I get it.. if you just want the solution get the part and knock it out.. I think you’re looking at maybe a hour and a half of work if you take your time and adult beverage break constantly.
Good luck brother hope you get a better answer than mine.

IMO, it isn't worth anything more than asking. If they won't replace it, replace it yourself.

The Standard Motor Products VP41 is still cheap enough (When you can get them) that I'd DIY before I wasted any amount of time trying to talk the dealer into doing it.

I too had the PC warranty on the Ranger and never even bothered to call the dealer. I just replaced them at every 30k and considered it done.

Mine has been throwing a CEL off and on for a couple months due to the DPFE sensor. after 2 trips to the dealer 🙄 . they agreed that it needs to be replaced, under warranty, but its currently on backorder (of course)so now I need to wait until it comes in.

on a rant......
I had an appointment on Saturday. brought the truck in, and the service writer says "oh we cant do that today, short staff, simple work only" I said they just need to plug it in to get the code and order the part. "nope cant do that, have to do a full diagnostic" so I have to bring it back 2 days later, be late for work, make wife late for work so I can drop it back off. Truck sits there all day, Pull wife out of work again to go back to pick it up.........
Zero test drive miles, "oh yeah its the DPFE sensor", but its backordered, we'll call you when its in stock".......................
Yes, I know, schmuck. Thats what I asked you to do the first time I showed up (with an appointment) so I wouldnt have to waste another day of work for both my wife and I........🤬🙄🙄

I can't believe that the dealers and Ford don't even seem to be aware of that sensor issue. It would seem to me that, both from a PR and cost standpoint, it would be a LOT smarter for them to volunteer changing that sensor before ripping into a transmission. I don't have access to a diagnostic tool, but it would seem that this sensor "fails in-range," meaning it is sending a signal to the ECM that is within its design parameters but doesn't correspond to the actual situation. Kind of like if the temp sensor says the engine is 32 degrees when it is actually 210. A tech should be able to see that with diagnostics, right?

@V12 Verado to the service writers credit, I did tell them the trans was occasionally surging also. When I picked it up he said they didnt do the trans update in the TSB because of the DPFE sensor fault. He wanted to replace that first because its known to affect the trans behavior. (which obviously I knew, but I was surprised he did)

Yes- but if the tech does not know what to look for in the PIDs for the abnormal parameter it will be overlooked. As they will be primarily looking for codes.
This is why I put this together for others to see a (Normal PID Data) Reference here.
The main ones are:
EGR Valve Position (Open) and the DPFE Sensor and MAP Sensor readings, the MAP sensor reading translates to (Engine Load Calculation) and (Engine Load Calculation) translates into the transmission shift points.
If the EGR Valve is open, you have flow feeding into the intake manifold and the MAP sensor registers that flow.
