Smart move for GM or any company, if they can get it to work.
But if (when) I invest in an EV, charging station, solar and power storage for my car/home, exactly 0% will be going out to the grid unless I can get serious cash in times of emergencies. In the early days of solar, a selling point was that the power company had to buy excess power at going rate per KW/Hr. Now in many areas they only pay a fraction of the going rates.

People appear to talk about "the grid" like there is only one grid in the whole country. Every area and every state are different. IMO, Kansas has plenty of energy for EV and are already gearing up for it. I haven't lost power since 2007 ice storm. I have 2 generators just in case, but haven't had to use either. They do get used at the cabin though, it is off*grid.

But to some extent they are all interconnected and one utility will often rely on other utilities to carry them through shortfalls.
But if none have excess capacity...rolling outages in the socialist Republic of California during the heat wave when AZ and NV also had heat waves. This past summer.

So long as your grid doesn't rely on any wind or solar it won't fail like happened in Texas, still laugh every time I see that jackass of a govn'er blaming renewable energy souces for the Texas grid failure when the gas pipelines froze, unbeeleevable.

Every state should have it's own "grid" so a hacker can't take out such a large area. Decentralizing sounds safer an more secure to me but what do I know.

Or the bald eagles in Alaska who usually die when they cause outages.

I lived through that. I was renting the upstairs of an old farm house an not having a/c for a day was rough. It was in the 80s/90s when it happened. My dad didn't get power back for like 5 days. His neighbor got restored after a day. They ran an extension cord over for the tv an fridge. He was the cut off for restoration lol.
