Ethanol in your gasoline. It is hygroscopic, absorbs water that can rot a steel fuel tank. It destroys organic (rubber, Viton) components in older cars. Ethanol has a higher calorific value than gasoline due to heat latency upon evaporation and yet it takes 1.6 litres of ethanol to produce the same energy as 1 litre of pure gasoline. To the Environmentalists, all of this technobabble adds up to one simple fact - you don't go nearly as far with a tankful of gas cut 10% with ethanol. Ethanol (C2H5OH) belongs in your glass. This is why I use premium gas that doesn't contain ethanol. Buyer beware.
