Front Axle Question

I recently tore a CV boot and ordered a replacement front right axle for my XLT. I will rebuild the first one as a spare. But I noticed while I was ordering the axle that there is another left and right axle with different part numbers that say "tow pack." They are considerably more expensive. Part numbers are KB3Z3A428B and KB3Z3A427B. Can anyone tell me what the difference is?

Also I do not know if this is the right section to post this, but here we are.

I think if they are beefier the real question is are they interchangeable and if not why?

Hi Chris,

I have no idea what the Program decided for the Tow Package but it would not surprise me if there were different axles for the tow package but for what reason I do not know. Remember the days of 28 and 31 spline rear axle shafts for example and 1330 vs 1350 U Joints for the rear axle too.

I wounder if Benny of Levittown could track down some info on this

So I actually when through the same issue as I have the tow package on my truck. But they fit the exact same weirdly enough perhaps just minor differences? Or ford trying to get some spare money.
