If you have an unlimited data plan on your phone, then yeah, it's less useful.

But, if you don't have an unlimited data plan, there's definitely some usefulness to it. Also, not all carriers allow you to use your phone as a hotspot. Also, I think with the cellular antenna on the roof, there are reception improvements to be had compared to a handset. AT&T is definitely not the best in my area in general, but I've absolutely noticed that the truck gets better reception than my phone at times (not always). Some of them being when my phone doesn't have reception at all.
I guess that makes some sense. As the father to a teen and tween girl I just ASSumed that everybody would have an unlimited plan. However, why manage two bills if you don't have to?

The capability point has merit though, and the speed.

It's also worth noting that not all unlimited plans are truly unlimited. Many throttle speeds after a certain point. As far as I can tell, the unlimited plan for the Ford truck doesn't do that.

What I'd prefer, though, is a plan where I can load a certain amount of data onto it (that doesn't expire) and only load data onto my plan as I need to. Unfortunately, AT&T doesn't offer a plan quite like that for this truck. They get close, but you have to use the data within a certain amount of time.

Yeah, two bills is kinda annoying. But believe it or not, it's actually still cheaper than moving my phones to a comparable data plan compared to what I have now. Especially when you take into account the occasional overage charges I get when I'm on a road trip and use up my data.

Ya, that was like my situation.
My wife & I share 2g data on a plan with Verizon, with rollover.
We never use even that, because we don't use the phones much beyond being a phone.
Except when we do road trips.
And it was a LOT cheaper to subscribe to the truck's unlimited ATT hotspot, than go unlimited on the phones. A LOT!
So, for us, it works.

I just didn't realize data over cellular so so much slower than home cable.
But, it still works ok, cheap.:)

To answer the original question, I generally get like 5-10 down the handful of times that I tested. Not awesome but good enough. It's a bit slower than my phone (also AT&T) but not by a lot.

As far as why the plan is useful, I have two young kids who love to use their tablets in the car/truck. When they were pulling data from my phone's hotspot it wasn't unusual to run out of data by the end of the month if we had any day trips that month. We have "unlimited" plan for the phones but on ATT unlimited means 22GB. So when I got my truck I signed up for the 2yr plan. It was super cheap when you break it down by month. That gets me all the data the kids can use in an average month during car rides.

Network is probably pretty congested in Houston. The more people connected to a tower the slower the speeds will be. 5/10 sounds about right for ATT in a congested area.

Work gave me a phone with unlimited, so, no.
A quick question, highjack!!! Fordpass app, on 'map', It looks like the truck is in Waine? It also follows my phone.
So I can find myself but that's really unhelpful as I have never lost myself.

the few times I've checked, my location in the fordpass app has been spot on?
