I'm not very familiar with the Fordpass stuff. Is a plan required if I only want to be able to remotely start my truck from another location or to use the scheduled start feature?

No the remote start works independently of the 4G modem. I believe you get 1 year free, then the following years it will require an annual fee.

I am AT&T free for about 4 years now, are you stuck using AT&T or can you use another provider?

I strongly suspect you're stuck with AT&T (or Bell in Canada). I wouldn't even know how to find the IMEI & MEID numbers to swap a new SIM card in.

Ok thanks rangerdanger, The reason why I asked is I have a hotspot for my 1998 ranger with T-Mobile that plugs into the computer. I really like it. I looked it up a couple of days ago and it isn't compatible (not surprising) but I was just curios.

Just like my company work vehicle GMC 2500HD w/ HotSpot, will be stuck with AT&T, but I should be able to get the same unlimited $20/month rate like in work vehicle that I pay for monthly so there is a small plus.

I strongly suspect you will have to use either AT&T or T-Mobile. Cellular networks operate on two differing technologies - GSM and CDMA. GSM is used by AT&T / T-Mobile, CMDA is used by Sprint, Verizon and others. The two are not compatible technologies.

Yea, they use ATT because it is GSM, Sync 3 is a global platform and everyone in the world outside Japan and North America uses GSM networks for cell. Easier to build once for everywhere if you can. (Chicken tax not included)

How long does it take before the points show up in FordPass after activation?

I’m pretty sure I made all the right moves to activate, as of this morning but haven’t seen my points show up.

I think it can take up to a week. Mine took a bit - not sure exactly how long but it wasn't right away.

Someone needs to hack this thing in pieces to find where the sim card is, I'd love to have the option of getting service from TracPhone or something that actually works where I live.

It’s $85 a month in Canada from bell for 10gb
Which is BS..
Why would I even think about getting that when I get unlimited ( 10gb at full speed) for $50 on my cell phone.

I am considering FordPass Rewards just for the 42000 points.
It requires modem activation.
After the three months, can you cancel the modem service and retain the points toward service?
