I’m pretty sure it will. I’ve been using the app and I’ve never set up the free trial for the data plan or anything when I got the truck.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it acts like a text message or what, but I hit "start engine" and that guy is out in the tball parking lot a good 500yrds away, and it's running.

Correct, the FordPass app usefullness is not tied to the AT&T in vehicle wifi. I originally thought it was, but I used up all of my free data many months ago and the app still controls the truck. They aren't connected.

Ok I'm in Australia I set up fordpass I got the app by useing a 3rd party app download play store wouldn't let me get the app.
How can I get the remote start to work.
I can't get a dealer in Australia to activate it as we don't have fordpass app in Australia

They are connected. The truck still requires a cellular connection for the Ford Pass app to work. The WiFi hotspot is independent from Ford Pass and is only used if you need data for use through the truck. Ford just recently announced that Ford Pass support will continue indefinitely. I believe Ford has reached a deal with AT&T to continue support since I imagine Ford has increased revue for AT&T with customers who choose to continue their WiFi hotspot subscriptions.

Makes sense because my Mustang has remote start but Ford Pass for my Mustang does not. The Mustang is not WIFI hot spot capable...

Yeah, the remote start for your Mustang is on your key, correct? That uses the RF (radio frequency) signal from your key to the receiver in the car. It also requires close proximity for it to work. Whereas the Ford App can be utilized from anywhere in the world as long as your phone and the vehicle have a cellular connection.
