i am prepping my XLT for its first road trip this week. I have roughly 300 miles on it now. I am starting from Philadelphia, PA and driving to Iowa and back. That will rack up about 1,800 highway miles and ~150 city/town miles.

I got myself into analysis paralysis selecting a hood deflector and a bed tonneau. So, I am driving to Iowa without either. It is for a family reunion. I might end up driving home with one or both items if they are in stock or can be procured quickly. I am sure to have lots of installation help, even if it is just from the sidelines making fun of my mechanical abilities. Good Times!!!

Any “must have” items for the road trip you think I need?

The truck is pretty solid, just pack your stuff and go

Now if you are going to 4x4, that's a whole different story on what to pack

Well, we're going on our first Ranger road trip starting tomorrow, but everyone's road trip needs should be based on your specific road trip. However, being that it's the first time taking the truck out, there's some things that I don't normally think about since they're always in the vehicle... so here's what I got:

Emergency always in the truck supplies:
1) Map (drivers seat pocket)
2) Detailed Map of my State (drivers seat pocket)
3) Extra water bottle (under rear seats)
4) Extra water bottle full of windshield wiper fluid (under rear seats)
5) First aid kit (under rear seats)
6) Double check the first aid kit is fully stocked because I'm constantly going through its contents =P
7) Rain jacket (behind rear seats)
8) Umbrella (behind rear seats)
9) Hoodie (behind rear seats)
10) USB drive full of music (front storage bin)
11) Extra contacts (center console)
12) Old pair of glasses (center console)
13) Roll of quarters (center console)
14) EZpass (glovebox)
15) Phone chargers (front storage bin)
16) Portable phone charger battery bank (front storage bin)
17) Insurance/Registration (glovebox)
18) Keys for all of the bed racks & accessories (center console)
19) Spare pair of sunglasses (sunglasses bin)
20) Windshield visor blocker thing (passenger seat pocket)
21) Checkbook (glovebox)

Old supplies that might at some point find its way back into the truck:
22) Jumper cables
23) 32'' 1/2'' Breaker bar w/ proper socket for lug nuts

In addition, if you're thinking about putting it together on the road, you might want to have a decent toolbox of wrenches and screwdrivers and whatnot to use. And then obviously all of your personal bags and anything for the family reunion.
