In my dreams there is an electric blue Ranger Raptor with the 2.7 ecoboost but after seeing how tight the engine bay is with the 2.3l, I don't know if that'd even be possible. That looks like a very cramped setup. It reminds me of my 89 Ford Probe GT. You had to remove half the engine just to change a simple O2 sensor.

But the 2.7L is also 4 cylinders, just with 400 cc (0.4 liters) more displacement. That shouldn't take too much space? Not that we're getting a 2.7L EcoBoost anyway :)

Ford's 2.7 is a V6 with twin turbos but Chevy has a 4 cyl 2.7L. With how slow the 5.3 felt with the 2019 I test drove, I can't imagine how that'd drive.

Oops you're right. Totally had a brain fart here

I wonder if the reason not to give the Ranger the 2.7L ecoboost was purely to avoid cannibalizing F-150 sales. Sure would have been nice to have as an option on the Ranger.

The 86 Ranger I use to own had a 2.9 v6 with about 125hp the 270 hp 2.3 ecoboost will do just fine.

My 01 Ranger has the Vulcan 3.0 6cyl with around 135 horsepower and don't haul very much so the 2.3 EcoBoost with double the horsepower it is definitely enough for me.

I think my 2003 4.0L had 210 horsepower. But it also weighed a little over 3,600 lbs. This new Ranger is 275 horsepower? And 800 lbs. heavier? There will be a performance difference, but not as much as we may think.

As far as cannibalizing F-150 sales, the pricing on Ranger will be enough to prevent that from happening. Look at GM...with rebates and incentives there are guys buying Silverados with Z71 package for upper $30k range. A moderately equipped Colorado is the same price with no where near the rebates. Same thing is going to happen to Ranger. A lot of folks will go to the dealership interested in the Ranger...but once they see the F-150s parked there with $8,000 rebates suddenly there will be a decision to make.

From what I've seen, they use the side vent on the Ranger to mount the snorkel and then extend a hose to the engine air intake.

Good find! However, what is to be done with the original intake tube that we see goitn from the hood area to the filter box? I’m assuming you just remove it and attach the snorkel to the same inlet.

Hopefully the NA version will have a larger tube diameter because that looks like major airflow restriction for the 2.3L. Especially when it’s tuned.
