Confession: I use CarPlay and voice commands. A lot. Plugged in the phone, pushed the voice button, and immediately got this message: Siri requires an internet connection. Seems their latest security update enables Siri to function without an internet connection, keeping your info in your device. That's good. However, the software that makes that happen is not compatible with chip #11 (iPhone X, for instance) and requires chip #12 or newer. So, the voice command that worked just fine before, is now disabled. Before you run out and buy a new phone, the update can be deleted: settings/general/storage/iphone update. It may be a temporary fix, but for now it works. Keeping my iPhone X - and my money. :curse:

What's a Luddite? :)
To be fair, the Luddites were more than opposed to technology. They were terrorists who engaged in many acts of sabotage.

While RP may be more keen on the superior smartphone platform, and against the overpriced garbage that Apple sells, I'm sure he's no terrorist.

Siri always required an internet connection to work. Apple added functionality to phones with a processor and memory capacity to support it.

They didn’t take anything away. They added functionality where it could be supported.

I'd first ask what software you're on? Version 15.3.1 is out, and I don't have the issue you're having. I am aware some of the commands don't work as expected, unless CarPlay is activated. And some of that specific issue, is fixed in the latest version of Sync.

There is one thing for certain. The need for constant upgrading is evidence that companies are doing their best to increase cybersecurity as needed, to combat the thieves.

I'm on 15.3.1 as well. My initial thought was also Sync. However, I had the same problem with an after market unit in my Mazda. Deleting the last update corrected the problem in both vehicles. They may be doing their best to improve cybersecurity, but they're doing so at the risk of losing older units. My guess is they'd like to see me go from X to 13. :frown:

Sorry. I just asked a question, as did you. Did not mean for you to take it personally. :frown:
You essentially called him a luddite just because he doesn't use Apple. There are many other phone options out there that don't require getting sucked into apples stupid ecosystem.

I have an iPhone because that’s what my work gives me and I have an IPad because, well, I have an IPhone :). I am not a big phone person and I am a minimalist user compared to many of you guys, so I ask this from ignorance on the topic, but how is the Apple “ecosystem” different from the Android “ecosystem”.

I have an iPhone 12 with 15.3 and I believe Siri was working fine I’ll go out and check it again

Not too much different tbh. The internet, however, would have you believe otherwise!
