I got an intermittent check engine light, checked the code with torque & it was a P0113. This started in Sept, so today I went to dealer thinking it was emission related. They had a different code, which
was for DPFE. They want 5 hrs labor + parts, 60k mile truck. So that's over 1,000$ Canadian, which comes to, what half that US?
No other issue with truck, no other symptoms.
Anyway, Rock Auto it shall be.
How do they figure 5 hrs???
Same dealership I got the transmission updated with a TSB & they wanted to charge me when it was still covered with warranty.
Do they wonder why we call them stealerships?
$18 USD and an hour of your time will correct it. Next time around will be a 15 minute effort.

Yup. just changed my water pump on a 2007 Escape, what a pain but fairly easy, I'm just slow now.
Too bad it's 32f & not getting warmer, I hate working in the cold.

Kudos and Thank you for this write up and to this forum. It cannot be oversold how big of a difference swapping this part out can make. I have 90k miles on my 2020 Ranger and had noticed slightly rough shifts, searching for gears at lower speeds/rpms for the past 5k miles. Not to a level of large concern nor was it lighting up the dash with codes, however I decieded to buy this sensor and replace moreso from a preventative mindset. Once installing it was evident within the first shift the change. I had clearly gotten used to the rougher shifting which likely became worse over time creating the new normal to me. It darn near feels like its a CVT with how smooth it is now. haha.

I think a lot of people simply adjust to the rough shifts thinking it is normal. Changing the transmission fluid, and adding LubeGard Platinum cured 99% of my issues.

Changing the EGR DPFE sensor took out the rest....which is my case was almost nothing more than an annoyance compared to what was happening before the fluid change. My transmission is behaving normally again. And I am only at 25K miles.

Just had my 2023 XLT in for this same sensor replacement and CEL came on at 19,000 miles.

Just a small Ford dealer and service department and I know all the guys there and I asked is this a common problem and Kenny looked at me said like to have a dollar for all that I replaced so far.

Told me water kills most of them.

KA1Z5L200A from dealer is 152, but rock auto is 23$ - No hoses.
LB5Z-9J433-B is 173$ - With hoses.

What am I missing here? Is it a problem removing/reinstalling the hoses on the DPFE?

Anyway, no rush for me as the CE is no longer on & no transmission issues, I'll be changing it
in the spring when I won't freeze my fingers.

Those are expensive hoses at $150! Seriously the sensor is all you need to replace.

Buy a couple of hose clamps from amazon or where ever, and use the old hoses. There are dots on the hoses , be sure to align them to the front, and move the hoses one at a time to insure you put the correct hose on the correct barb on the sensor. The hoses are different. Pretty easy job.

The two clamps on the sensor end of the hoses are not reusable. The other two hose clamps are spring friction fit and they will come off easily with needle nose pliers. Buy 2 or 3 of the sensors and stock them away. The next time you change the sensor out will be a trivial effort and take you 10 minutes.

Just replaced this sensor with the one linked. Unfortunately, still have the same issue around gear 3,5,&7. I also reset the learning table and ran through the gears and did the little re-cal cycle x6. Any other suggestions?

Change your fluid and add LubeGard Platinum. It cured my crazy transmission issues when nothing else would. It is cheap and you have nothing to lose. I let the truck sit overnight and got out 7.5qts. I added that amount back in leaving room for the 15 oz of LubeGard. Problems were cured immediately with a small slightly harder shift from 4th to 5th. Drove it a week and repeated the process, This time it was smooth as butter. It is time to change the engine oil and I'm going to repeat the process one last time. This will get me to 87.5% new fluid with LubeGard going back in again. I am then going to try for 25K change cycles. So next one will be at 50K unless I start seeing shift problems again.

just be sure to replace exactly what you suck out via a transfer pump. I've got 8K trouble free miles after having 10K-12K of increasingly bad shifts, jerks, slow shifts, and hard stops. First was barely noticeable, but the problem only became progressively worse.

If you’re within the 5 years/ 60K miles power train warranty take it in to your dealer for TSB 24-2101. If your not then what @TJC suggested would be a good next step.
