I was considering getting one of those. Just about every tech in our shop uses those and they're great. I just used a regular funnel the first oil change I did.

I just used a regular funnel - since the filler is right on top of the engine, it stays put. No need to hold it while pouring.

I prefer the kind with caps. Keeps it clean in between uses.

Just found this on Amazon. It uses the 1/4 turn thread just like the oil filler cap.

Anybody else use one of these... or something similar?

Motivx Tools Engine Oil Funnel for Ford Vehicles with 1/4 Turn Oil Filler Caps

Hey John; you may want to contact Motivx directly as I'm not sure that funnel will fit our trucks?
https://www.motivxtools.com
This funnel was mentioned in another thread a couple of months back. After looking at where the oil filler tube was located, and not being 7' tall to reach over and hold a standard funnel while pouring in gallons of oil, I thought this looked like a great funnel to have.

I called Motivx directly and spoke to one of their principals. (CEO I think?) He was great on the phone and told me their current Ford funnel had a slightly different 1/4 turn pattern than the 2019 Ranger EcoBoost. He said they were working on the tooling and should have a funnel that fits our truck in early 2020.

I asked how different the patterns were? He said not much at all. I am pretty good with a Foredom FlexShaft (I'm an apprentice Goldsmith in my spare time) so I asked if the funnel could be modified to fit? He thought it could be done; and even said if I tried and it didn't work, he'd exchange it for the correct funnel when they come out. (How great is that?)

So I figured what do I have to lose, eh? Plus it was only $14.95, so I ordered one.

The funnel is top-shelf quality. The lower part of the funnel is clear polycarbonate which would prove to be a little more work to modify. (BTW, being clear allows you to see the oil flowing) :inspect:

I removed my oil filler cap to use as a template/guide to make the necessary modifications.

As you can see, the opening/patterns are pretty close, but the funnel does not screw into the oil filler tube on my truck. The problem is the thread-opening width on our truck's cap is wider than on the funnel. (why this would be different on our trucks vs. all other Fords, including older EcoBoosts.... only Ford knows!)

Using the filler cap as a visual guide, I used a number of different heads to grind/shape the polycarbonate with my FlexShaft. (A Dremel Tool would work too). In addition to widening the opening, I had to re-shape the thread to get it to fit properly. (the polycarbonate Motivx uses is basically bulletproof!)

After about 10 minutes work (it took more time to walk back and forth from my shop to the garage to test fit!) it fits perfectly. The rubber O-ring seats nicely and the funnel will easily support a full quart bottle pouring itself.

Hope this helps?
Cheers!

I purchased the funnel that was advertised to fit all Ford and Mazda vehicles. It fit my 2019 Mazda MX-5 perfect but not my 2019 Ford Ranger. Opened up the funnel base slot with a rotary tool as you detail. Funnel now fits both my Mazda and Ford. Used the funnel on my recent oil change on the Ranger and it worked great. I have a 2 inch front leveling kit and need a step ladder to pour the oil. Using a 5 qt container, that funnel is worth every penny I paid for it since I didn't have to worry about a typical funnel moving or coming out of the filler neck.

Hey fella's... can you post up a photo of your modified funnel threads? My question is which portion of the threads did you modify to widen the opening.... the point of the thread or the flat? See photo below. Thanks!

I actually did both. I shaved a small amount off the lip or point end as you describe of the funnel and then ground the flat width to match the oil cap.

Thanks for the reply. Any chance you can you post up a photo?

Hey John, I did both as well.... but focused more on the threaded part "A", I opened up the gap and also modified the "slope" of the thread. (Does that make sense?)

Here's a photo, hope it helps:

Glad the funnel mod worked out for you.... two for one bonus!

I have a 3" level and have to use a step to comfortably reach into the engine compartment as well. Having an anchored funnel is a must.

On another note, thank you for the details/info on the Fumoto valve gasket/washer. I am going to install the F107SX with the adapter and that adapter has the same gasket/washer material as you mention. I will be contacting Fumoto or getting a "crush" washer before install.
