Just had the dealer put these tires on for me. They set the pressure to 40, but the door plate says 35. They are the same size as stock 265/60 R18. Just wondering if there is a purpose for them upping the air pressure.

I've owned over 25 different vehicles in my lifetime. And, they represent about 20 different dealerships. I have yet to have a vehicle dealer employee fill the tires correctly! Never under inflated to be sure, but always over inflated by several pounds! Heck, even Discount Tire can't get it right!

Hi Alan,

When I picked up my 2 new tires from Big O Tire yesterday to repair the ones damaged by a curb that tore the sidewall. I was surprised that the pressures were set correctly for my Nautilus! Kudos to Big O!

In the morning, when your tires are cold, check them. If they are still 40, then lower them to the pressure stated on the door sill. My tires are 265/65-R17 and the door sill plate says 38 psi cold, but I have found that 35 psi to be a better setting for me. Driving in 104+ temps on the highway will easily bring them from 35 psi up to 41 psi.

I understand the hot and cold aspect. I brought them down to 36 after I had been driving for a while and realized that. Now they are at 35 cold and run up to 38 during driving. I just wasnt sure if they had a purpose in doing that or not.

I don't think you will have any issues with 35 cold / 38 warm. It shouldn't wear out the tire or lower gas mileage. When it turns really cold, you might bump it up some. I drove 380 miles with 38 psi cold and turned around and drove 380 miles back with 34 cold and my mileage actually came up 1 mpg (although there were other factors affecting fuel economy). But I think 34 / 35 psi cold when the outside temps are high should be no problem. If you have a heavy load, then bump it up a couple psi.
