One thing I haven't heard explained - WHY is the RR so much heavier? 1000 pounds? That is a LOT of suspension components.....

The off road suspension weight 600lbs in itself. Then add in the larger tires/wheels and engine and it adds up pretty fast. One thing I haven't heard explained - WHY is the RR so much heavier? 1000 pounds? That is a LOT of suspension components.....

That just seems nuts - that is another quarter of a truck! The off road suspension weight 600lbs in itself. Then add in the larger tires/wheels and engine and it adds up pretty fast.

I am on my second Ranger and it felt like they both woke up power wise after the first 1000 miles. They may detune it a bit to let everything break in. A friend is getting a Ranger Raptor and they told him no tune until it hits 2K miles. He is replacing a Colorado he had a supercharger installed on at the dealership 100K miles ago and feels it is his best option to get that same power level.I had my ranger tuned too an it was quick but I would think the raptor should out run it.
A guy I know just got a new C8 vette an it came detuned an limited performance until he exceeded 500 miles. Once it turned 500 miles it unleased the full performance. Does for do this with their svt products?
Think that was the same TFL towing video I saw, the RR killed it on the towing test. That honestly would be my biggest reason to go RR over GM mid-size. My current 5G on 33" tires handles our 19ft travel trailer perfectly but I also wouldn't want to tow more considering the area and summer temps. I usually keep it at 65-70mph because MPG falls off a cliff, only go over 70mph to pass in Utah. The off road suspension weight 600lbs in itself. WOW Rob I had no idea it was that different. I thought a couple hundred pounds...One thing I haven't heard explained - WHY is the RR so much heavier? 1000 pounds? That is a LOT of suspension components.....
That tow test was a "reduced" tow due to the lower tow rating of the RR. I think the RR only has a 5500' tow rating if I recall correctly.Think that was the same TFL towing video I saw, the RR killed it on the towing test. It was still a solid test with good elevation change and the load was still 5500lbs. This is where that v6 TT torque would come in handy. I tow a 19ft travel trailer and on 33" tires, our Ranger does really well but I bet that RR would do great. One reason I wanted to do an intercooler and radiator is because the truck gets heat soaked when we tow over 100F, it still does ok but you can feel when it is not at full boost sometimes. Sure less of an issue for that RR.That tow test was a "reduced" tow due to the lower tow rating of the RR. I think the RR only has a 5500' tow rating if I recall correctly.
Another reason why I'm glad I have my 5G!
My best uneducated guess; the engine is bigger, the interior has more going on, comes with 33" tires, and the the overall frame is probably more beefier due to the "nature" of what they advertise it as, baja blasting etc etcOne thing I haven't heard explained - WHY is the RR so much heavier? 1000 pounds? Yeah, but that is a whole QUARTER of another Ranger - that just seems excessive.....My best uneducated guess; the engine is bigger, the interior has more going on, comes with 33" tires, and the the overall frame is probably more beefier due to the "nature" of what they advertise it as, baja blasting etc etc
Totally agree - different trucks for different folksIn the end. Get what you need, want, or budget for. Everyone has different priorities. My tuned 2019 Lariat fit my needs and put a smile on the my face. The RR just puts a bigger one. I had all the intent to keep that 2019 for a long time but speaking for myself I'm glad I upgraded.
