Wait until you get a Bronco. There isn't one.

You can't see it, It's electric!
You gotta feel it, It's electric!
Ooh, it's shakin', It's electric!

You gotta know it, It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie!
Now you can't hold it, It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie!

(Sorry, it's Monday)

My last two jeeps, a Renegade and newer Cherokee, had electronic activated parking brakes. I went into the vehicle settings to keep the parking brake from automatically engaging every time I shut the vehicles off. I didn't care for the parking brake engaging automatically especially in the winter time.

Back a few years had a 29 Model A open cab pickup & a 30 Coupe. For those that don't know they used steel rods for brake activation. Rods were connected to a shaft which was connected to the brake pedal, if you stood on the brake to hard you could bend the rods, that would really make braking difficult as brakes were then out of adjustment. Sometimes under certain conditions it helped to use the emergency brake. :like:

yes, this is how i use it:

1) come to a stop.
2) put trans in neutral while holding foot brake.
3) apply parking brake.
4) release foot brake and make sure parking brake holds.
5) apply foot brake and shift into park.
6) shut off engine.

this keeps pressure off the trans parking pawl. it's quick habit after many years of doing it.

if a manual trans:

1) repeat steps 1-4 above.
2)shift into 1st gear
3)turn off engine.
4) release clutch.

never had issues with rolling or trans issues with it being locked in park.
I basically do this with our '16 Honda Pilot w/9spd. Our driveway is not flat and every time you shift into reverse or drive it makes a horrible sound when coming out of park. I try to explain this to my wife but she doesn't care. Kinda like how she treats driving to E a game....till we killed our fuel pumps at 50k miles.

All the time. My driveway is decently steep, I use it to take the load off the transmission

When I wipe down the parking brake boot I pull it up for better access, other than that never. Of course the town I live in is flat as a pancake so I never need it.

Always.
Here in Australia where the majority at least learn to drive in a manual, we're are in the habit of using the park brake. I consider the park gear in the transmission to be a secondary function, the primary tool used to keep a vehicle stationary is the park brake.

Same thing here! Although both my sons have slushbox only licenses, oh well at least it stops them from driving my Jeep.

Saw on the news this morning you are going to get a get out of Jail free card soon! Stay safe down there!

Every single time. Just ingrained in my brain to do it since most of my earliest vehicles were sticks.

I use it once a week or so. I was told a long time ago with another car that the emergency brake is how the rear disc brakes adjust.

I am every time now thanks to this thread. Iā€™m putting in in neutral first, setting the brake, putting it in part, then turning off my Ranger.

Early on in my driving days, I got stuck in Park while parked on a hill and had to get help to rock the car while attempting to get it out of Park, with a loud bang! And after seeing the fragile-looking Park pawl and detent in most automatic transmissions, I got in the habit of applying the emergency brake every time I parked, even in the garage; old semi truck habit.
same here. stop to park, set the parking brake and then shift trans into park. after several cars and trucks with manual trans the habit is hard to get away from.
