Did you at least get some steaks from the cow that murdered your Ranger?
It looks like the impact went up and over the sensors that trigger the airbags. They measure how quickly the front end is being crushed back, and are usually located on the frame.
And lastly, if you had gotten a dampener, do you think your truck might have survived?

Well do to some unfortunate events I lost my Ranger. Sunday I decided to go out on a trail and on the way back home I ended up running into a cow(yep, I killed Bessie).

With the damage to the front end I am certain she is totaled....... Lets face it, we have seen Rangers with less damage get totaled.....

The weirdest thing that gets me is with all that damage none of the Airbags went off!! To say the least i already got ahold of Ford to let them know!! Who knows what will become of that...

As an Inflator Engineer I can't help but focus on the fact that your airbags didn't deploy in this event. Now I don't know all the details here and I haven't worked a Ford program yet, but I have a pretty intimate understanding of restraint performance required by several other OEMs and it looks to me like those airbags should have deployed just based on the damage.

Just last week I commented on another thread regarding the electrical connector under the front seats and you answered pretty quickly with a good explanation - thank you for that - I had flooded the cab in a mud hole right before and was getting pretty frustrated pulling the carpets. Interior is bone dry and buttoned up now!

Anyways, I'm bringing this up because in the same thread you mentioned using Forscan to clear any DTCs that appear while removing the seats. I've found that disconnecting the wiring harnesses for both front seats and the two for the rear bench(necessary to remove the carpet) has resulted in a seat belt sensor error message upon every start up. I'm assuming you're familiar with the subject because you have messed around with the under seat wiring harnesses - if so, did you receive any similar error messages and subsequently cleared them with Forscan?

Again I'm only speculating here and maybe your accident just didn't check the right boxes for an airbag deployment, but I'm wondering if this is at all related to DIY interior work and if I myself need to take a closer look at my own vehicle.

I haven't delt with the SRS system too much with Forscan but I can say I didnt have any message on my truck for the SRS before the accident

Well too my suprise it looks lile the truck might not be totaled After all........ So far the estimate is just under $24,000 and that is with all the parts including some that I removed to install the FX4 skid plate(still intact I should say). If it isnt totaled I might see if the Body shop and insurance might be willing to work with me and maybe pay for an ARB Summit bumper since it would help for any future issues(and let's face it, after a deer and a cow I think its justifiable). I wont hold my breath but one can always hope.

What is my plan? Well as much as I would love for you guys to just pitch in and buy me another Ranger(I have a better chance of winning the lottery) I am most likely going to find a cheap truck(yes they still exist) and get some much needed debt paid off until I can get myself another Ranger(probably the new body coming up).

Will I be leaving the Forum? I dont think so as I still find it nice to be able to give others helpful information.

I worked with body shops for 40+ years. It looks like the air bag sensors were not as impacted as the rest of the truck. there is more damage showing above the bumper where the sensors are located.
I am so sorry for your loss. I know you and everyone here loves their Rangers and hate to see it go out this way. I am glad you are okay. But I do have to ask, did you have a rather large BBQ afterwards?

I have full confidence in the body ship but afyer a small conversation with insurance it might actually be totalled. To start who knows if there is anything else damage wise on the truck? Second the tow bill has yet to be added and including storage the bill is already over $1,000 and is technically added to the estimate(no it hasn't been added yet).

With all that said the truck is most likely a loss since it is close to 75% value for the damage. Unfortunate but it is what it is and I already have a plan just in case

Agreed. If it's getting fixed, you might as well upgrade it.

Sorry for your loss. Main thing is we did not loose you. Vehicles replaceable humans not. Cow now that's a different story. If air bags deployed it would be more likely to be totaled with the extra cost.
