Air bag sensors are triggered by rate of deceleration. Although it was a hard hit and created a lot of damage the vehicle may have not decelerated rapidly enough to deploy the air bags. An average beef cow weighs around 1200 lbs. Although that is enough to create serious damage at 50 MPH it might not be enough to create severe enough deceleration forces. Air bags generally deploy when crashed into a solid barrier at 8 to 12+ MPH or into a parked car of the same size at 16 to 28+ MPH. Also, many times trucks or SUVs designed for off road duty can have higher limits to prevent accidental deployment while driving off road or over very rough terrain.

You.may not be wrong but shall I mention that in early October of 2019 I hit a deer at 70 MPH in my 2016 Frontier only damaging the drivers front a little(not as bad as this) and the air bag was deployed. I didnt even slow down much from the impact either. This truck wasnt totaled either but was the trade in for the Ranger(and yes I used the same plates for both)

Yikes! Glad you are okay. I think if I were in your position, I would absolutely drive my “other” car and take my time on a replacement.

Too an extent that is the plan since I do have a bit of dept to pay off. Another truck will still happen, its just a question of what and when(before another Ranger that is)

Order a Bronco. By the time it comes in ALL your debt will be paid off.

Looks like you may have scooped the cow on impact. That could only explain the lack of air bag deployment and the relatively flat bumper.

Regardless, you're sucking air and kicking dirt, so you're still on the top side of this wretched earth, and that's all that matters.

It’s possible the Nissan system was designed with lower deployment tolerances or somehow it was just right to deploy the bags. If you are really curious the Ranger is equipped with a black box and that may give some answers on why the airbags did not deploy.

Part of why Ford was informed so it can be looked into. Who knows what the outcome will be but it will be figured out

I notice no one has asked about the OME rear springs... I'd love to take my level kit to a lift kit.. and I'm relatively local sooooo....
