Gibson dual rear exit. Just a nice low rumble. Hardly even notice it when you get on it. When you walk up behind it when you first start it, sounds really cool. Then it idles down and sounds sweet.

OK, three pages and counting. Little to no agreement on the original question. Like many other similar choices, there never will be. It is all a matter of personal taste. And, it is a four cylinder, it will never sound like the highly tuned 8 cylinder plus engine we all crave.

It is a fun diversion from discussing transmission issues, electrical problems and the many other nagging issues people have with their trucks.

Carry on! It's a fun thread to follow.

I had welded up a 3" section after the stock downpipe with a Dynomax Bullet "muffler" with a turndown before the rear axle. It was very deep; I loved the idle and how it sounded under load at 1800-3000 rpm. The idle got compliments from "V8" people. However, the drone was quite annoying when engine braking in the same rpm range.

I now have an MBRP 3" with the turndown before the axle. It is not as deep or aggressive sounding, but it does not drone near as much.

So, for deepest tone, I'd recommend big exhaust diameter and a minimalist resonator or straight thru muffler with very little packing volume that cuts down on the rasp. It will likely drone without some more packing or additional resonators or maybe a hemholtz resonator.
