As it was *in addition* to existing taxes, I agree.Yesss, a good thing it died.
CA is working on a Road Charge to *replace* the fuel taxes, which I'm fully in favor of.

At $0.02/mile vs $0.511/gal
For one tank of gas (roughly - using 18 gals) with my average MPG (21mpg):
$0.02/mile tax = 21 * 18 * $0.02 = $7.56 vs $9.198
$0.03/mile tax = 21 * 18 * $0.03 = $11.34 vs $9.198
$0.04/mile tax = 21 * 18 * $0.04 = $15.12 vs $9.198
Depending on the specifics, I'd much more be in favor of a use-tax instead of a fuel-tax for supporting infrastructure, especially given how prevalent EVs and high-mpg vehicles are in CA, at least in the larger cities/metros now.
