NEW VEHICLE DEMONSTRATION / DELIVERY HOLD
Compliance Recall 19S15

Certain 2019 Model Year Ranger Vehicles
Shift Cable Bracket Fasteners

Affected Vehicles:

Vehicle: Ranger
Model Year: 2019
Assembly Plant: Michigan
Build Dates: March 05, 2019 through March 13, 2019

Reasons for this Compliance Recall:

Ford is issuing a safety recall for select 2019 Ranger vehicles. On some affected vehicles, the two fasteners that secure the transmission shift cable bracket to the transmission housing may not have been torqued to specification. Over time, an improperly torqued fastener could allow the transmission shift cable bracket to become loose and the transmission to be in a gear state different from the gearshift position selected by the driver.

This condition could allow the driver to remove the ignition key (if equipped) with no instrument panel warning message or chime indicating that the transmission is not in park. This could allow unintended vehicle movement or roll away if the parking brake is not applied, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition.

Service Action:

Dealers will properly torque the two fasteners and verify the proper operation of the transmission selector assembly according to established workshop manual procedure. Prior to the recall repair, the parking brake should be applied whenever the vehicle is parked.

Thank you. Assuming if I got recall via “Ford Pass” then my vehicle is affected?
Yes. I'm assuming you'll also get a letter in the mail from Ford with the details.. If the press release from Ford is correct, you can verify your build date on the FMVSS sticker on the driver's door pillar and if it falls between March 5 -13th it is under recall. You can also confirm with your dealer, although I wouldn't be surprised if they don't have the details yet. Since there don't appear to be any parts required, just torquing bolts and verification of shifter behavior, it should be a quick trip to the dealer.

Hmm. I think mine was built on 3/5. No notice in Ford Pass.

This little tidbit is alarming:

DO NOT attempt repair on vehicles equipped with 4-wheel drive at this time. Parts ordering information and repair instructions for 4-wheel drive vehicles are expected to be available by the end of second quarter 2019.

It may affect those vehicles with an ignition key (i.e., not push-button start); having a Lariat you probably have the push-button start. I'm in the same boat so monitoring for a recall.

It has to do with build date, some of the earlier trucks were subject to this concern.
Your fasteners are probably torqued right, but they may have found a few loose fasteners or found a defective torque wrench at some point, so they want to check the trucks built in that time period just to be sure.
